May 20, 2011 - exercise update/general update
Hi everyone,
This weeks workouts have been ok. Working on my running workouts ok. Went to the gym on tuesday and did my 45 minute treadmill workout. The treadmill is getting really old. I keep telling myself, just a few more weeks - then I can do other things. At the end of my treadmill running, I have been practicing with speedwork - at 6.0 (now thats fast!). Only for about 45 seconds to a minute at the end.
Yesterday was group run. They have us doing 2.5 miles now. We start up at the bottom of Michigan and run up High Street (where Buffalo General is). run past the hospital and down washington (where my favorite hill that I can't seem to run up completely), then down carlton, past the cancer hospital and right on Michigan to Virginia, crossing ellicott, back on to Virginia and right on Washington, up that damn hill (the same hill that the guy passed away on(see previous journal)), right on High street, past Buffalo General Hosp, right on Michigan (down the 1st hill), Instead of turning back down carlton past the cancer hosp, we ran all the way to Virginia and made a right on Ellicott to Carlton. I almost kept going but the girl who was running with me yelled for me to come back. I was happy because I didn't want to run that damn hill on Washington a 2nd time. LOL!! The mentors were not even around me to pace us with a bell with me and the other girl because everyone else was so far ahead of us. We just did our own thing. Seems like everyone is getting so much faster and I just seem to be held back. I know - at least Im doing it. I need to lose about 20 lbs to get back to 10 min mile!! No one seemed to be behind us this week. So, it seemed to us that we were the last ones to come in.
Found out when the breast cancer run is - June 11. I might do it. I have to go online to register. Some of the others from my group run are planning on it. Its not our training run but its the run that the other groups from other nights are doing. I will have a different shirt than everyone else because I am a cancer survivor. I still want to do that Catholic church run (which is one of the most popular runs - everyone is usually there) on the 17th. Then the canal festival 4 mile run is at the end of July. I was told that there is no 5k training runs in the summer but in the fall. I will have to keep an eye out for it. I spoke to Kelly, the mentor and she said they might be expanding it with different places for it.
My Pants are getting extremely lose. I think its time to go shopping for those size 14 pants. The grey pants I got when Arlene and I went shopping are dropping off my body. They were so tight - I almost took them back. LOL!! Back on track with eating my salad for lunch every other day. Eating protein and alittle more carbs on the day that I will be running. Yes Norma, I haven't had any pop in about 2 days. I am doing ok. I drink water at lunchtime now. I need to concentrate on my water intake - which is about 100% better now that I am working out.
I told a few people about my breast cancer and Polycystic kidney disease at our group run. They were surprised that I was out there running. I need to exercise! As long as I feel really good, there is no reason. Oh! I have my great days and I have my bad days (thats what my heating pad is for..LOL!!). I have more great days. I do my workouts every other day. I don't know if I can workout daily. I probably should try it out. The weight is at 183 right now and steady. I need to keep up with the running, walking, rollerblading this summer and evenually - hopefully sometime this summer - I will see the weight drop off. I think its gonna happen rather quickly. I know I am gaining muscle weight.
This weekend, I am going to flip flop my running/ walking schedule. I am gonna walk tomorrow morning. I need to go out to Angola to visit the folks saturday - so I will get up early (I hope) and do my 1 hr walk. on the way down, I need to go to my hair dresser (she lives about 10 miles away from my parents but on the way) and pick up the paul mitchell hair sirum (its that clear gel to keep my hair from humidity and flattens it out just enough). I just use about 3 pumps and finger it in my hair. Im also use MaryKay and have used it for many years. Sunday, I will run - because I don't have any plans. Its just easier. Its suppose to be a great weekend. Saturday is the best day - high about 75 degrees. Sunday its suppose to rain again (I am so sick of this rain, I need a drout). But Monday its suppose to be a high of 80. Looking forward to that, I will be at work - thats a bummer.
Sonja just came in my office. She has to run home because she wore Jeans to work and HR caught her. She's been doing it for quite a few weeks. when I worked for Visiting nurses association, we had dress down fri and was able to wear Jeans. That was great. I miss that. I really didn't care if she wore Jeans to work - neither did the rest of us. She looked sharp with her Jeans and nice top. Oh well, she did try... She should be coming back any minute. She doesn't live too far away from here. 9:45am - Sonja came back. She's gonna walk over to HR and say "hi". LOL!!
I only lost 1/2 lb again. Back down to 183 again. I need to just keep doing what Im doing. Im on a roll. Lori lost about a pound and a half, Todd gained 3 (he going in the wrong direction), Mary - not sure. I never asked. We definitely won't win any prizes. 1 more weigh in on the 2nd. That will be bad because of the memorial day holiday.

Keep up the good work, Jen. You are doing so well. I hear you about the treadmill running; it really does get old. I think it\'s great that you\'re thinking of doing other races. Nobody says that you have to run the whole way. You are one hell of a person for just being out there. It is a testament to who you are. Big supportive hugs my friend.
You are doing great. Keep your head up and keep on doing what you are doing!
Big Hug!! Your not in a race against them but FOR yourself! You ARE a winner!
