May 16, 2011 - workout update/ weekend update

Hi Everyone,
this weekend's workout was incredibly difficult this week.  Thursday, the temp rose to about 75 degrees and the humidity was pretty high.  I did have a hard time.  Alice and Bob, the owners of the sports store that is sponsoring this training run came to talk about the guy who collapsed and eventually passed away.  I felt bad for Alice, she started to get really upset over the whole ordeal.
Of course it doesn't help when I didn't eat any protein for lunch and ate my salad.  My diet got screwed up.  It was nurses week and the nurse managers gave us lunch on Wednesday.  I need to keep with the program on my diet for lunch if I am able to run on Thursdays with the group.  Back to square 1 this week.  I had to throw out my green peppers because they got super soggy in the green bag.  I think that bag was getting old so I threw out 1 pepper.  oh well.  I guess those green bags can't be perfect.  It seems to hold well with the salad.  I threw 2 bags of lettuce and I have enough for Wed.  Seems to keep dry. When I reuse that one I might keep 1 bag of lettuce in it.  I don't want the lettuce to get bad.
Anyways, Saturday I returned to the gym and ran 45 minutes.  3.5 min run/1 min walk.  2 min at 2.5 and 1.30 at 0.00.  I am trying to get use to the incline.  I don't do too bad on it.  I still continuously jump off the treadmill if I feel winded.  Thats a constant problem of mine.  I am running a consistent 1 minute without jumping off though, which helps some.  Except at the end.  I know I am doing a good workout because my heart rate goes up to about 167 max.  I do stay on for the 5 minute cool down and bring it down to 3.7 for 2 minutes, 3.3 for 2 minutes and 2.8 for 1 minute.  By then, my heart rate goes down to 155.  I hop on the stationary bike with resistance of 12 for 10 minutes (Peddling very slow).  By the time I get off there, my heart rate goes down to 115.  Thats good enough.  I then weigh myself before I go into the locker room.  Totally frustrated.  I now weigh 184 lbs.  I gained a few.  I think I am gonna screw myself over when it comes to the weigh in this week.  I sure hope the other 3 are gonna lose.   I expect them to - I probably will gain.  We only did 1.67% as a team last week.   thats pretty sad.   I think when I get out of the gym my heart rate drops down to normal.  I always feel so good after leaving.  I drink a ton of water on the treadmill and my shirt is completely soaked after working out.   So far I can log in about 3.45 miles on the treadmill.  I might increase it to 50 minutes on the treadmill before the end of this 5K training workout.  I do have to keep going with my workouts because I am doing a 5K just before I leave for Denver and Im doing a 4 miler at a festival at the end of July.  That will be it for the summer, unless one of my running friends talks me into doing some August runs??  I've been so out of the loop with my running friends that I have no idea who will be around.  I am volunteering for a bicycle run for diabetes on Saturday the 4th.   There is about 40 Kaleida Health people doing this.  I know maybe 2-3 of them.  It will be nice.  One of them is from the risk management department (I send her insurance forms as colleges send them to me).  I will have to drop her a note.
I couldn't go walking yesterday because we were dealing with severe rain storms all day.  I stayed home and became a "slug".   The cat loved it because he had a warm lap to lay on.  At least I got a good chunk of my DVR shows watched.   I still have about 55% (not 90% like I had on friday).  Hopefully later today, the weather will break and I can do my 1 hr walk tonight after work.   Lets cross our fingers.  The weather here in Buffalo NY is about 45 degrees (yep..its May 16!).  It suppose to be above 70 and sunny by this coming weekend.   I need to get my tires rotated and call to get my car inspected.  I think I will do that this week.
