Matthews Story

I would like to tell you about my precious Matthew. Matthew was killed July 14, 2010. He was 20 years old and was 17 days from getting married. I knew the first day he brought Molly to the house he would marry her. He was absolutely amazing. Matthew called me everyday, but more lately because of wedding preparations. I had actually talked to him 3 times that day. I talked to him at 5:30pm and at 8:29 he was with the Lord.  He was on his way to work. He worked full time at night, and went to college during the day. He was a huge University of Tennessee football fan, and never missed a home game. He bought one season ticket every year. That still makes me laugh to think he had love UT football that much.  Matthew was not athletic, but his younger brother is an exceptional athlete and could have played football or baseball in college, Matthew was his biggest fan. His brother chose baseball and Matthew would have supported him fully even though his love was football. Matthew loved to fish and grill out with faimily and friends. Matthew was very kind, loving person, but very firm in his beliefs. He was a christian, and wanted to please God. He was very black or white so to speak. He treated EVERYONE with respect and kindness, there was over 1500 people at his funeral. We had to move his funeral to a different church just so everyone that wanted to attend could. When I think of his life I smile even though my heart is broken. The stories people have shared with me since his death confirms what I have known all along. He was a blessing from God. Matthew had a favorite saying and I will end this journal entry with it.
"Like I've got the sun on my face
and the rain it ain't never gonna fall"

Thank you for sharing Matthew with us...he sounds amazing. It is so obvious how he touched many people in his short 20 years. My Alex was in love with Jackie when he had his accident as well...and they were truly soul mates. It has been nearly 7 years for us and she only began to date about a year ago. We found out on the day of his accident that Jackie was pregnant. So, my granddaughter will be 6 years old on January 28th. I have had other losses in my live too Tonya...and none can compare to the loss of Alex. I am glad that you have found us. Love and gentle hugs...Karen
