Matthew\'s Bday (long entry)

yesterday was Matthew's bday. it was a looooonnng day and i'm surprised i'm alive after all that!  he went to get a hair cut right down the street... after he got back and had a shower, we took off to go down town for lunch. now there's something i don't get along with: DOWNTOWN. i hate the city for it's crowds of people, too many cars, no parking, one way streets, traffic jams, etc. and when you finally get a place to park, you have to walk for several blocks to where you gotta go. anyway, back to the story... we went down down in search of a restaurant called "Dat One Persian Restaurant", because not only is Matthew half Iranian (Persian), but it's his birthday and we thought it would be nice to eat something of his culture. cuz we eat Indonesain food here at home often enough. we arive down town and he decides to park in a public parking garage. then we walk out of it and on to the streets. now, he's never been to this restaurant before, so he's unsure of it's exact location or what it looks like. he wanted to go here cuz we found it on the internet. and i'm not sure about you folks, but when i find something on the net, i call them before i leave to make sure i know what to look for, or at least make sure that they are OPEN. so we are walking around and round and we finally find the building that matches the address. there's multiple small restaurants inside. so we walk in and walk around and around, but find no Persian Restaurant. then i ask him if he tried calling them before weleft and he said no. i was frustrated and said oh man...that place could have moved or closed and maybe the site didn't get updated yet!  finally i walked into a cafe and asked them about the persian resaurant. this man directs us to a restaurant in a whole different building on a different street. we get there, but it's not persian, it's lebonese. well, close enough, let's eat here. the guy in there tells us that the persian rstaurant had closed a year ago and they didn't know why. but he tells Matt that there are many persians that live on island he can meet and make freinds with. he tells us where in the down town mall to find one that owns a store. now, that's another thing i don't get along with: MALL. but because it's his bday, i say to him "let's go to the mall afterwards and try to find the store" so he agrees. Matt likes malls, he likes shopping. i HATE shopping. i knew that i would later regret saying that. but i told him i would take him shopping for his bday and get him some nice clothing for his up coming interviews.  well... when we got the giant mall... to make a long story short, he got distracted by all the things he wanted to see, we never got to find the persian lady. we also only ended up getting one pair of slacks and nothing else. my feet, back, legs where in so much pain by the time we got the 3rd store. he is so picky about shopping, he wants to find the best thing of the WHOLE store before he goes to buy it. me... i go right to the dicount rack and find something i like and buy it. if nothing, then i just quit. in and out, that's it. i got so frustrated cuz everything got so painful and he got mad cuz he wanted to keep going. fianlly he gave up and we headed out.  he wanted to eat dinner at this Japanese restaurant called "todai", it was also downtown. so we drove out there and he found a place to park. we had to walk for 3 blocks before we finally got to the restaurant. it wasn't open yet. so he suggested that we go walking along to the other stores and see what else is there. i told him to go with out me and i will just sit at the restaurant cuz i hurt way too much. he got mad and said "that's no fun!"  well what the hell do you want me to do?!! shit! finally we went up to the restaurant and sat out side it till they opened. it was an all you can eat buffet and he couldn't wait to get inside. once inside, we ate so much food i thought we were gonna bust! on the way home some time after 7:30, he seemed quiet and let out a loud sigh. i boy... iknow when he's got something bothering him. finally after nagging him he tells me he's depressed cuz he spent too much on dinner. i tried to tell him that it's ok to splurge on your bday. i felt bad cuz it wasn't me that paid for the dinner. so i told him i will take him out Sat night. we will also finish getting him clothes. gosh...  when we got home, it felt SOOOO good to shower and lay down. my feet and legs were just throbbing! what a long ass day and i was so happy to have survived it. i felt like tank ran over me, but at least it was over. hopefully today won't be so bad. we plan on goin to the beach before finishing the shopping. gosh... wish me luck. and by the way, my poor cat's been sick so pray for him that he doesn't need surgery again. thanks everyone and have a great weekend!
