Violence towards women is different from that directed at men, both in terms of motive and execution. Women tend to be targeted by predatory individuals looking for sexual or financial gain - sometimes both - men on the other hand tend to be involved in spontaneous acts of violence, which are caused by disputes that involve loss of face or respect. That is not to say that women aren't involved in such altercations, or that men aren't targeted by predators but that in most instances women face threats and dangers that men don't have to deal with e.g. rape, sexual assault, explicit and sexual language that aims to intimidate, stalking (both from strangers and ex-partners), emotionally and physically abusive partners etc. Whilst men can also be subject to these things, they are acts of aggression that women are more likely to face.

Women are also more likely to face acts of violence, where the aim is to subdue and control them, whereas men are more likely to face violence where the aim is simply to inflict physical damage e.g. striking and kicking etc. Women are likely to have to deal with grabs to themselves, their clothing or their hair etc. and are more likely to be picked up, carried or pulled to another location. They are also more likely to be forced to the ground or floor (men may find themselves in such situations due to them falling over, being punched to the ground etc. however most assaults on men don't have the goal of forcing them on to, and controlling them on the ground).

The Krav Maga Yashir women's program is a collection of 12 easy to learn solutions that deal with 90% of the situations that women are likely to face, from being picked up and carried/bundled away, to dealing with hair pulls and strangles etc. We teach it using the SEPS (Situation Effective Protection System) framework of self-protection and personal safety - more information on this approach, including the course/program framework can be found by clicking here.

The 12 solutions are easy to learn and pick up, allowing for more time to be spent practicing them and teaching the contexts and situations which they attempt to solve. By teaching the pre-violence indicators in such situations, we can teach not just the physical techniques that can be used to deal with the physical aspects/components but also the ways to predict, identify and avoid becoming a victim in the first place.
