Managing the portable infusion pump

As I mentioned, I’m on a 46 hour continuous drip of 5-FU, so I was wondering how I would sleep and shower while connected to this thing. I was planning on keeping the pump on my night stand and then just sleeping on my back. The back is my least favorite sleeping position. I was also concerned with this setup that I would get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, and forget I was attached and have a very painful reminder that I am attached. My wife suggested to just keep it attached to me (I’ve been wearing it like a fanny pack and that works well for me).For showering, the chemo nurse suggested to put it on a table out of the waters reach and to avoid soaking the port area. I put the pump on a 4 foot ledge inside the shower – I have to be careful about the length of the tubing as it has about 3 feet of slack.
