Mama
So I was reading a post this morning about how hard the season can be on mothers who have lost a child... A single word leapt off the page... and set my mind scrambling for a foothold...
Mama...
you know... typing the word mama... that's just another thing I grieve... not to hear her voice saying mama...
so many ways the word mama was like a whole conversation... you know... the mama that was filled with elation of wonderful news she was longing to share... a timid mama from that said... I need to tell you something... please don't be mad... the bossy mama... like how dare I offend her so... Remember Mama, when I was in my teens... giving you a hard time... Oh yeah I remember I say a bit amused... then she says... Mama, I was yanking your chain... I'm so glad for the memories of many times I heard Cara's voice calling me Mama... I loved being called mama by my children... I taught my children early... if you call me by my proper name... I won't be hearing you... I miss her every day all day... and holidays yes... they're hard to get through...

Oh yes, this journal resonates with me! When Josh was an adult, he called me Ma. Wish I could hear either again, other than in my dreams. This time of year is so difficult for us moms. It seems that my mind is on Josh more and more this month as his birthday was this month and of course the holidays. Sigh. Sending love to you, Elisa...
I loved hearing Douglas say that too and I remember looking at his phone and it said, "Ma and Pa." It made me smile as I knew he was quickly putting names in as his dad was always Pops and I was Mama too. To hear that in only the way that they could say it is that connection I know that I long for. May we all feel our wonderful children with us in their own unique ways and remember that we are always and forever their Mama"s. In appreciation for a sweet memory that I had not thought about for awhile. Thank you, Elissa.
Peace IS the path,
Joanie/Forever and always Douglas' Mama!
Oh how I miss "MOM" - sometimes said in an endearing way, sometimes angry "MOM, MOM", sometimes just mom.....I miss it with every breath I breathe. I miss my mom in the way she looked @ me - I miss the treats she would bring to work sometimes - I miss the laughs and the tears - MOM has so much meaning for me and I'm thankful that those memories are so close to my heart.
Vicki - always Jennifer's MOM
When Dean was young he called me mama. As he became a man, I became mom. Oh, what I would give to just hear his voice again.
Yes, this time of year is so hard. I hope you and Richard have a very Merry Christmas.
I understand completely. Ed is my only child so I will not hear "Mom or Ma" in this life. It breaks my heart.
Tight hugs and love to you and dearest Cara, Linda
