Making sense ... finally

I went to a new therapist the other day - doesn't eveyone who has RA have one? And I was telling her that I used to be so active - did my first triathlon at 55 - and then was diagnosed with RA in '08 and most everything came to a screeching halt. Most of my life was built around being active and athletic and now it's based on do I have enough energy today and what's not going to hurt.
But the important thing she said to me is that I was this girl X and had everything all planned out according to that girl, but NOW I'm girl Y and have to make plans, as best as possible, according to being girl Y. It was one of those DUH moments that Oprah always talks about! Only I don't think she calls it the DUH moment.
So I'm in the midst of a minor set-back, major back surgery, and trying to cope and rethink my life. I'm going to TRY to not get discouraged when I'm not up to doing things and do the best I can when I'm feeling good. Getting my back fixed will hopefully add to the good days. The goal, therefore, becomes to be more positive, have fun on the good days and be okay with just hanging out on the bad ones. I think I might get the hang of this...it's like comparing a new boyfriend to the nasty ex-husband. Unfortunately, you just can't compare..it's not healthy!
