Making New Friends
It's never easy. There, I said it. I don't even know where to begin making new friends in this gigantic city so far away from everyone I've ever known and loved. The fact that I'm not on social media makes it even harder... but social media just never was a good match for me.
I do have a coffee date with a new friend tomorrow, someone I met on my last trip down here to house shop. So, I guess that's something. And, the hubby and I did sign up to participate in a group meditation on Thursday... but I don't know. It just all feels so strange, and I'm left wondering if I'll ever have the kind of amazing and tight-knit friends I had back in St. Louis.

No, I don't believe you will ever have the kind of amazing and tight-knit friends you had in St. Louis. Such groups are even more rare and unique than the individuals involved. Butttttaaaaa. . . A city full of new flavors of friendship is available.
I find I form my best new relationships by pursuing my own interests and paying attention to whomever else is there, sharing those interests with me.
Be patient with the process, Jenn. I'll bet dollars to wishes that your St. Louis circle didn't come together in a single day, either. Continued support while you build your new life.
I agree with arfie- Finding places to go to persue your interests/ hobbies helps. You and the other people there have something in common and at the very least the activity is enjoyable. It takes time. I'm new to a different city (on the other side of the country from my hometown!) myself and trying to be patient with this process too. Be gentle with yourself, it takes time.
That is so true, arfie...It took years to form those bonds in St. Louis. So far I've made one new friend here in Atlanta and one friendly acquaintance with a neighbor.
Thank you, APieceOfMyHeart... it's nice to know you are speaking from direct experience. Right now I'm looking into volunteer opportunities for local causes that I care deeply about. Hopefully, I'll be able to help out and meet awesome folks.

Thanks! I did go to a community coffeehouse yesterday and met a neighbor who was super sweet... and I went to the farmers' market that evening.
Today, I have a coffee date with a new friend whom I met last time I was here house shopping. And, Sunday, the hubby and I plan to go back to the local community coffeehouse to socialize some more.
Also, I think I've found a volunteer opportunity well-suited for me. I plan to apply after the 4th of July holiday.
