Makeup pick me up
I decided one day about a month ago that I felt plain and frumpy. I've heard and said it all of course- who cares what anyone thinks, my hubby thinks I'm pretty so whatever, beauty is skin deep... blah blah blah. I have no issues with self hate or anything like that (though I am self conscious, particularly of weight issues I've had in recent years) I just realized I needed a pick me up. RA has really knocked me for a loop in a lot of ways, so I'll take what I can get that works. I'm not giving up on wearing sweats around the house, but I did start doing other things. I googled different hairstyles that I can do to make my hair a little nicer, instead of always wearing ponytails and I started wearing makeup every single day. Not a ton, but enough to make myself look nice. Because I wear a tinted moisturizer instead of foundation, and I now have to thoroughly clean and moisturize my face every night, my skin is really clear and smooth too. More than it has been in years. Lol. I also started painting my nails. Not sure how long that will last before I get sick of chipping them... It's silly and superficial to use makeup as a pick-me up, but, it's working for me. I can't easily change many other things, but I can do that much. My husband came into the bathroom this weekend while I was putting makeup on. That day I felt pretty crappy and wasn't doing anything besides reading, so I commented that it was kinda stupid. His response affirmed what I'd been thinking, "But it makes you feel better." Sometimes taking the time to be a girl- not a mother, maid, person with RA, but just a girl can make me feel better.
