Make negative thoughts positive

Here is something that I think can help people who are depressed.  People usually get depressed by thinking their way into it.  We need to monitor our thoughts and catch ourselves when we have start thinking negative.  Try to flip every negative thought upside down and turn it into something positive.  If we made a mistake, try to think of what you learned and how you can apply that to make your future brighter.  If we are anxious or afraid about something happening, try to think of positive outcomes that could happen instead.  Here are some examples. 1.  "I failed.  I am a loser."      change into...     "I did not do well this time.  I am going to try harder and make some changes to make sure I do better next time." 2.  "I miss my girlfriend (or boyfriend).  I cannot live without her (or him)."  Change to...     "I had a really great feeling when I was in this relationship.  I will try hard to meet someone else so that I can get that feeling back.  This time maybe it will last." 3.  "I am pathetic.  I can't do anything right."  Change to...    "While there are definitely areas about myself that I need to work on, I am overall a good person and have something positive to offer.  While there are some areas I am not good at, there are other areas where I do have talent.  Maybe people do not recognize it, or maybe it needs to be developed, but it is there and I am going to make the most of it." 4.  "I am so alone."  Change to...     "I am looking forward to when I can spend time with my friends again.  In the meantime, I am going to make good use of the time I have by doing something productive." We need to turn all of our negative thoughts around like this, even if we cannot acept them as true at the time.  By thinking positively, we will make ourself feel better rather than worse.  We can inspire ourselves to make the positive changes that are necessary to turn things around.  In short, negative thoughts are counterproductive whereas positive thoughts are productive.  So think positive. Nick
