Major Ventage & 2 Bits of Good News

Very stressed today. And a big part of it (probably more than I'm aware) is that my sleep was sooo fitful last night. Hard time falling asleep, staying asleep; kept waking up, couldn't quiet my mind; even when I was sleeping, my dreams were fitful & unquiet.
I think part of it was dealing with my son last night. He was playing a video game before youth group & my daughter & I kept waiting for him to finish. Finally, I said, "We're leaving now without you!" And we did. When I got back, he was ready to go & I was like, "I'm not driving you there now. You missed the ride." Well, he just got completely illogical. He thought that it "wasn't a big deal" and that it was "just a little gas" to use, and it "wasn't as important to get there on time as school" (more on that later), etc etc. What he fails to see is that our lives do not revolve around him! So he stayed off the computer till about 10pm & I should have put my foot down there & then (today I will). So he stays up playing more & has problems the next morning getting out the door. In spite of his earlier promises that he would be on time.
Then this morning I see that the kitchen sink has all kinds of junk/food in it. I start rinsing it & asking, "What is all this stuff?" So DH answers, "It's bread crumbs from the bread you made." As if I baked it in the sink, for crying out loud! (BTW, we do not have a garbage disposal, so he knows to dump his plate into the garbage! But perhaps his legs were broken...)
And while I'm driving today, the car feels as if it's handling funny. It most likely is just me feeling jittery & that just feeds onto my nerves...
Another thing is: my daughter usually gets a ride home with her friend, whose mother works at another school in town. Well now the mother is involved with some after school program 4 days a week so can't come pick up her daughter until all the kids in her charge leave the program. So my daughter & her friend are at the school alone for a few hours. Granted, there are probably sports & other things going on, but the thing is that I don't think they should be just hanging out at the school alone when some whacko could come along & do God knows what...Part of me is considering telling my daughter to get on the school bus & come home. And I really have to wonder what this mother is thinking. Granted, she is a single mom & it's hard logistically. But she could arrange for her daughter to catch the city bus to her school, or she could arrange to have her daughter come home with mine on the school bus (right now she can't just hop the school bus, because the driver is only supposed to carry residents; but since the mom is in the school system, I'm sure she has some pull to get an exception). I have no problem with her daughter coming over. But it's the mom's job to arrange these things. My job is to keep my daughter safe. I voiced my concerns to my daughter; I don't know if she'd pass them along. Maybe once DH's job winds down, he can pick them up. We'll see I guess.
So I feel out of balance today & all the loud talkers at work are on my last nerve. One lady here has a voice like nails on a chalkboard & she is being particularly chatty today, so ugh!!!
I know this journal seems like just one big list of complaints...I guess it really is the safest & best place to "lay it all out there". Once I get it out, I feel more in balance, which I really need.
Well, here are 2 really good things that have happened: 1-my article I wrote about my great-grandmother is going to be published in my genealogy society's newsletter next month! and 2-I got permission for an "Early Bird VIP" pass at the genealogy conference I'm going to this weekend--which means I get early admission & priority seating--yeah!! Nice way to wrap up "Family History Month".
