"Magical(?) Thinking"

My sister recently gave me Joan Didion's book "The Year of Magical Thinking".  I have read it trough twice.  These are some of the quotes that spoke to me.

Life changes fast. Life changes in the instant. You sit down to dinner and life as you know it ends.

Grief has no distance. Grief comes in waves, paroxysms, sudden apprehensions that weaken the knees and blind the eyes and obliterate the dailies of life.

Were we unusually dependent on one another....or we're we unusually lucky?...

....the possibility of death had been in the picture for months...Yet having seen the picture in no way deflected, when it came, the swift empty loss of the actual event...in the last instant alive, and then dead.

i just can't see the upside of this.

a single person is missing for you, and the whole world oils empty...But one no longer has the right to say so aloud.
