Made It Through The Consult
Well, I made it through the initial consult. Told him he needs a magic wand to take care of all this before I left. Alot of what he laid out I already knew from the first attorney a year and a half ago. He did also mention that he may try to come after me for spousal support since he is "disabled" and my take home is a bit more than his. I am also left on my own to work out the tax deal as they don't deal with tax issues.
So right now I am in tears, but pulling myself together I have phone calls again to try to see what can be done, but need to gain the rest of my composure back. ( I am so tired of people asking me if I have thought about this and can I afford it on my own.) And as I sat in the lobby hearing calls about custody battles and a divorce that is frozen because other party is challenging it, it did bring it all home just how real this is. I think about how much I want this, how absolutely alone I am in my struggle and how I will have to struggle to discover and hold on to all the strength I do have in me. Lots to do. One step at a time.

Hang in there KIm. all this can be worked out, like you said, one step at a time. I'm not a lawyer but, if he can make it on his own with the money he receives for being disabled, you may not have to pay spousal support. I know each state is different
He may not even go for it...I just know how angry and spiteful he may just be. In my mind, after giving all I had all this time and to have him take more while I am still left with so little just upsets me so.
I think you just have to love yourself enough to know that you deserve a better life.
Good luck and I hope it all works out for you.
On the flip side, if he does choose to go for that spousal support, it's a hell of a lot better to pay that than spend the remainder of life miserable in his presence.
Kim I know that you’re overwhelmed at the moment, but you can do it. Hugs.
Here for support...never easy for sure, stay focused......don't get distracted....
hugs hunypot
First off: YEAH for you!!! Getting into that office is amazing. I think that now you may draw on your initial courage to keep moving forward. Starting is always the hardest part for me.
If down the road into the process he gets this ridiculous idea in his head that he should be entitled to YOUR $ then your lawyer can bring him into court to explain why he didn’t do anything to help himself (or you). Smoking, poor diet, no exercise all which I’m sure his doctor explained to him many times. Not exactly a sympathetic person. In fact after seeing what you have had to put up with I would expect the judge to be very sympathetic to YOU. Get this done Kim. XO
