lovenox bravery

This morning I stuck the needle halfway in, chickened out and pulled it back out.
Then I had to try again.
Ack.
It goes against human nature to stick yourself.
But I am going to do it...one stick at a time.
Right now, I have a bag with 58 injections on my dining room table.
I can't let myself think about that.
I need to put them all away and take them out one at a time...

I found that when I had to stick myself at first, I could not dwell on it, grab my syringe and did it, without letting my brain take over...For me that was easier, you are correct, we hesitate as we think about it.
Soon, you will just do it...

You are so right. It will only get easier and I just can\'t think about it.

I agree it is definitely harder to stick yourself. I\'m not a nurse, but cared for my mom during the 9 yrs of her illness and had to prick her finger twice a day to check her blood glucose & give her daily insulin shots for 3 yrs. That was much easier than the 2 weeks I had to give myself the Lovenox shots, but the thought of another DVT allowed me to tell myself \"you can do this\" and I did. Later, after I was past that and only on Coumadin, one of my daughter\'s former teachers developed a PE and had to be on Lovenox and she thought she couldn\'t inject herself either. So, since she lived close by, I offered to go to her house once a day for a week and give her the Lovenox. I kept telling her that she was stronger than she gave herself credit for (she was also a cancer survivor at that point) and that, while I didn\'t mind doing it, I knew that she could too. A couple of months later, she had another PE (apparently she was Coumadin resistent) and had to go on Lovenox long-term and became a pro at giving herself those shots. I tell you all of this only to emphasize that it is perfectly normal to feel hesitant about this, many have felt just like you do right now...it\'s not a little deal. However, be thankful there is something like Lovenox that can offer a level of protection against another DVT or PE. Be patient with yourself, but honest with your feelings, and each time will get easier and easier until it is just part of \"what you do\". I agree hesitating makes it more difficult to go through with it...but you will see...you can do it! We\'re all here for you!

This makes me think of that Japanese proverb that says \"Fall down seven times, get up eight.\"

Keep at it.

You can definitely do this! When I was pregnant, I had to give myself lovenox injections every day for 8 months. I also did what you did several times- stick and pull out and have to restick! Bless your heart! I\'d like to say it gets easier (and in reality, it does,.....) but I still hate it though, and when I went in for the PE this last time, having the nurse give the injections in the hospital was a relief...ha ha ha. Crazy, huh? Just hang in there! I always promised myself a small reward/distraction for after I gave myself the shot- a few minutes *all* to myself on the computer, and phone call to a friend, even the occasional tasty treat... ha ha ha... just some sort of incentive that I had to do the shot first then have the reward. Maybe childish, but is helped psychologically... ha ha ha. Hang in there! You\'re in my thoughts!
