looking for summer camps for a and found a cheapie one too!
i go on line to register a for camp -- this will be her FOURTH year! wow! and i always wait to the last minute. lol. last year the sessions were cut back a LOT. this year they are cut back even more. my big plan was to register her for two weeks because i read an article that says overnight camp stays should be a two week MINIMUM because one week isn't enough time to adjust and make friends. so instead of being a confidence builder it will be a confidence weakener! whoops. never thought of that.
so my big plan for a, was to enroll her this year for two weeks. i can't. they don't have two weeks together in the christian camp sessions. i also realized that the summer camps are sold in one week and THREE DAY segments nowadays, so i'd need to find a two weeker one (how does being in a cabin for two weeks help develop friendship if campers are moving in and out of the cabin every 3 days, or do they group the ones signed up for two weeks together?
amazingly, i found a camp that is half the price of the camp we send her to, but she needs a sponsor to go there. its a "private camp" (most camps are) but it is sponsored by an organization, so you need a member of the organization to sponsor the camper. i also found a girl scout camp that LAST YEAR was more expensive than the christian camp, but this year is the same price. she can go for two weeks there as well, but girl scout camps have "add ons" for special sports and the add-ons for ALL THE WEEKS are already full and you pay an additional $12 if they aren't currently with a girl scout troop, which is also fine.
However, it also gives me an anxiety attack and knots in my stomach to send her to a non-christian camp, didn't know that but it does. so its still up in the air. the cheapie one, looks beautiful on line (nicer than where i went, not as rustic. very large, landscaped and all new buildings!); nice surprise, AND its the last year she could attend camp there. a is 13 at the beginning of the summer (but 14 at the end of the summer), so it depends on what the camp's "cut off" is. age discrimination.
i mentioned it to js, and she says to me, why not just get another campground timeshare (because we had that when js and b were young). i'm like, that's 13 years ago. that went in one ear and out the other. grrrr. 13 years ago to 20 years ago, we had camp ground timeshare. which is year round use of a campground with indoor pool and all the outdoor activities like boating and kayaking and arts and crafts and mini golf and pot luck dinners and all you can eat pancake breakfasts on sundays. that was great back then. i would never want that now. AT ALL. we have normal resort timeshare now, for the passed 12 years.
so that is the challenge at this minute. its beautiful out. rained a bit today. using a/c only in the green room which actually keeps HALF of the upstairs at the same temperature central a/c did, but for 1/4 the cost. amazing!

Good luck finding the right camp. I think all children should be able to attend camp in there life. It is so good for them to mature and still be safe.

yeah, i think we are going to go with the cheapie if they still have space. the other one makes me nervous even though its a girlscout camp, its complicated as well. and i\'ve seen that before where you have addons and no one is sure who goes where.
The only camp I ever went to as a kid (every year) without my parent\'s was Gymnastic\'s Camp. Lot\'s of hard work.....and a little bit of fun. :-)
And the only camp my parent\'s and I did with my brother\'s were actually Camping. Yes, tent and all, and cooking outside.
When I saw the \"Dirty Dancing\" movie I thought it must have been a great place to go to a special place like that every year. But I still liked my camping out.
I don\'t think we had anything around here like that.
I\'ve never heard of a Campground time share....just the Condo\'s and such.
Just assuming that A is your daughter? I hope that you find a great camp that works. What is her preference?
i didn\'t broach it yet with her. i know she wanted to do two weeks at the christian one last year and last year i couldn\'t because we were broke, for real. car repairs and all that. just bad timing. weird not to be able to just charge things as needed.
i figured, i\'ll tell her when i find it and show it to her. could be a big waste if she says, no rather go to the same one even without the extra week. i thought of that too. hope she tries it though. its up to her. she had no interest in day camp at all, that was an option last year for extended stay.
