"Looking Down the Road" Moments
I have had several "looking down the road" moments this week. You know, where something happens and you all of a sudden start thinking about what your future is going to be like and jump to the worse case scenario. So not fun!!!
Is this normal? Does anyone else have these moments? I would think so - how could you not with a progressive disease? How do you handle these kind of moments?

Perfectly normal I would say CM, it is afterall progressive - but whenever I pause long enough to stare into the future I usually feel such a wave of overwhelming sadness that I\'m frightened off. So as cowardly as it seems I handle this by not handling it at all, I\'ve found that avoidance works best for me, I try and focus on enjoying the present, none of us are guaranteed the future so why should I be any different.
Of course I know what can lie ahead but I refuse to accept it\'s going to happen to me, I look at what I can do, have no limitations, anything is possible - I believe that now more than I did before and to top it all off a generous helping of all the support I get here.
If that fails, a good cry, a bar of chocolate, a cup of tea and a long bath usually help me limp through to dusting myself off to get back up and starting again.
Hope you are feeling better CM,
Hugs
Julie
I also use the same solutions, except instead of tea I substitute hot chocolate with lots of whip cream. (I love my chocolate). You have the right attitude Julie. Anything is possible and when I stay in the present - usually life is very good. It only gets scary when I try to look too far ahead. Step by step is how I need to go and since I am going down this path whether I like it or not - why not do it with a smile! Right?
David Zid said to me \"We all age whether we like it or not, so why not age well. You have Parkinson\'s whether you like it or not so why not live with it well\". Good advice - don\'t you think?
Hugs back at you!!!
I think it\'s very normal CM... I have those jump into the future times also, a lot lately it seems as we get closer to the holidays and as i miss my mom... i think about her last year (i took care of her) and my mind goes down that road putting myself in her shoes... when i can\'t get out of it quick enough to satisfy myself like julie i let it out with tears and/or then indulge in the old comfort foods... but i am blessed to have a very good friend that is a psychologist who i can call whenever i need to talk.... he puts a lot into perspective for me ... and like Dr. Zid he reminds me that taking care of oneself helps aging be the natural process it is and that parkinson\'s is an adjustment in that process so adjust on the days you have to and do the best you can every day...
hope you are doing good today.. thinking about you.. paula
Thanks Paula! I hope you are having a great day too! Hugs!
