long time
wow,
i got an e-mail update from daily strength today and had a flashback to when i first started coming to this site. it's been ages since i was here. this site, and a good friend, saved me. i'm an alcoholic but at the time when i first came here i don't think i could admit that. i know now. thanks so much jim. you are the best!!!!
i cannot believe it is coming up to 6 years sober. i never thought i would make it this far. i cannot believe how my life has turned around in the past 6 years. i have a happy family again. my kids want to be around me and we are closer than ever. i'd say that is awesome considering how they hated me and being with me when i was drinking. (i didn't know that back then). my husband and i are also closer. we are happy. we laugh again and do things. (i was to hung over to do things before). i feel so much better. i have so much support from my family and close friends. it's fantastic. who knew?
i look back now and cannot believe some of the things i have done that i am so ashamed of. i can't change any of that but slowly i have been putting those things behind me. i am still fighting to let go of other things but i am working on it. my eyes have been opened and my head clear and i see things so differently now. its a very spiritual (not necessarily godly) and personal journey and i am slowly coming to peace with myself. i'm forgiving myself.
some days are a battle but those days are far and few between now. when i was told it gets a little easier each day i never thought that was possible but anyone reading this who thinks the same, it is possible. i am the biggest skeptic out there and trust me, that old cliche "if i can do it anyone can" has never rung so true as it does now.
i just wish that one person reading this would find the courage and believe they can escape their addiction like i did. it is the best gift anyone can give themselves. no matter how scared or embarrassed, humiliated, lost or beaten you feel, there is a light at the end of every tunnel. no matter how small that light is. it's there.
i believe things happen for a reason and i was meant to find this site. it changed my life. how does one ever express the gratitude owed?
always
