Live and Learn
Not a "HORRIBLE" sleep night for me but definitely not what I was looking for. I would have dreams but it felt like a lot of the time it was light sleep. I felt kind of depressed yesterday. Not about anything really in particular other than I didn't really do anything fun. Here in Utah it's been raining, really gray, and cold the last several days. I think the lack of sunlight sometimes puts me in an overall less positive/happy mood. But as the title of this journal suggests, I need to live and learn. I believe there were a few reasons why I didn't sleep particularly well last night. First, I didn't do anything fun that day. Secondly, I "rested" earlier than day. Third I didn't live by my work schedule.
The "I didn't do anything fun" is an eye opener. Really my only hobbies are working out and fishing. I usually like to fish once or more depending on my time available but didn't get to this week because of the weather. I didn't exercise either just because I'm having a tough time establishing a routine. I've shown signs like exercising now and again but I need to make it be a at least 5 days a week habit(maybe even 6 or 7 if it means just walking or stretching) at assigned times or else I'll just let the day pass and before you know it, it will be time for bed again. I also need to find another hobby that is in doors that I can do on days where fishing isn't an option. In the past I was into doing art; maybe I need to get back into that; overall I just need to find something to do. Reading/ trying to learn things about the human body or things in general is another option but unfortunately if I'm honest with myself, I think about this all the time and when I actually go read it, I lose the motivation an become bored. I think when I'm feeling bored like I was yesterday, I need to fight the urge to be lazy and do nothing and to do some of the things I should/could do(I.E Cleaning). Doing something even chores is more productive/will make the day better than sitting around watching TV or thinking I'm bored.
No naps/resting is SIMPLE to think about. The problem is not doing it. I think yesterday I gave in/ did it more so because I was bored all day and didn't do much versus actually being tired. So again, I need to keep busy and try to do fun things every day.
Living by my work schedule is the most challenging of all sleep protocol BY FAR for me. Below are some of my obstacles with this. First, Lots of shows/basketball games, etc. that I like tend to be on later than I should be up. If I don't have work the next day, it sounds more appealing to sleep in later rather than get up at work time(just with less sleep since I'd been up watching TV late). Secondly, my family stays up later on weekends and it's usually to noisy for me to go to sleep at that early time. Third, I've never been a morning person. So I work in the mornings on workdays but what do I do in the mornings on days off? Typically the only time I ever would want to wake up early and do something specific is to go fishing. Other than that my best workout results usually are later in the day. Because I don't have anything I really like to consistently do in the morning, this is a period of time where I'm very vulnerable for being bored and not having much motivation to do anything, especially things that I need to/should do.
Unfortunately I can't think of a real solution for the problems I encounter regarding folliwng my work schedule. However, there are a few things I can do that will at least make my overall situation a little better. What I've bolded are the things I'm going to learn from this past week and try to implement this week. 1. Exercise at least 5x a week. 2. Fight the urge to be lazy and do nothing and actually do some of the things I should/could do when I don't have anything planned to do(I.E Cleaning). 3. Find a indoor day hobby or hobbies

I, too, suffer from the Sunday blues sometimes. I find it hard to get moving in the morning, I usually sit with coffee in front of the TV for quite a while before I\'m motivated to do anything. And I also find that my best energy for working out is in the afternoon. But that\'s ok. That\'s just how I am. Judging by your username, I assume that you are into music. I know that you are thinking of finding a new hobby. Why not learn to play guitar or bass or something? My husband plays bass and I know that now that he works so much and his band broke up, he misses it, and sometimes when I see him playing his bass in the office, he just spends hours in there and he seems so happy. That is just one suggestion. I\'m sure you will find whatever hobby is best suited for you. I know that if I had more free time I would like to learn how to play the keyboard and guitar, and also learn more about photography.
I, too, struggle with staying on my regular schedule on the weekends. I don\'t want to wake up at 6am and go to bed at 10pm on a Saturday. Forget it. I don\'t think I want to live my life like that. I usually pay for it on Sunday night, when I can\'t fall asleep before 2am, but I don\'t know, it\'s something I\'m working on. We are not robots. We are human beings who want to stay up late and have fun sometimes!
Cut out the naps, for sure. I think that is part of the problem here. When you feel sleepy, go for a walk or do some housework or something. Then the drowsiness will pass.
Have you tried the sleepytime tea or the Z-Quil yet? Let me know if it helps. It used to help me before I got to the point where I needed heavy duty medication.
I am proud of you for really wanting to change things in your life, and not just complaining. I know that you will get to where you need to be. Just keep striving every day. That\'s what I am trying to do.
