Little Crazy Things
Well, it turns out that DCF did call back on Thursday, but left a voice mail (I didn't have my cell with me). I was almost set to call them back, but a little voice in me said I'd better do a little research on them first. I'm glad that I did. Potentially, even though this is supposedly a low-level case, it could open up a whole can of worms. Found a good legal site that gave some advice of: cooperate, but do it with a lawyer, because DCF can be tricky. OK.
So I found a local firm that handles this kind of stuff & I left a message on Friday at lunchtime for someone to call me back (because the person was not available). They were/are supposed to call me back in 24-48 hours. I didn't ask if that is business hours or calendar hours; however, calendar hours have already passed. I haven't gotten any further calls from DCF; not sure if that's a good or bad thing. But even if I hear from no one, I'll call the lawyers again tomorrow. I don't want to be unprepared.
Emotionally, even though I'm not on edge, I feel a bit traumatized by this; I don't want to call anyone in a way, because I don't want to re-open the pain of all this. On Saturday, I received the High School's minutes of the last PPT meeting (which I haven't been provided with in ages, btw). I have not yet read it because I really would rather not re-live that day. But I do have to read it. By the way, when DS had been suspended, I started getting these sharp, stabbing head pains about 2-3 times a day (sometimes more or less). I started to worry a little, but thought: "let me see if this is all just stress-related, or if it'll stop once DS is back in school." Well, I was right: I haven't had a headache since the last day he was at home!
So all that aside, here is a crazy thing that happened Friday night. DH was driving us all back from a friend's house & took the "long" way, which goes along main roads (I prefer the back way because it's faster, I think.) Right around the corner from our house is a major road & it has 2 traffic lights: one right before the railroad tracks (no other street though) & one at our street. In the past, DH has gone through the light at the tracks & I've told him he shouldn't do that because it's a red light & you have to stop at it. Of course, he argued with me with some illogical argument. Well, he did that again & what do you know: the cops pulled us over. DH asks me/himself: "why is he pulling us over?" Me: "Because you ran that red light." So the cop explains just this to DH & DH still tries to argue that he shouldn't really have to stop there. Somehow, he just didn't "get" the logic of stopping at the light, even when explained by a policeman! Funny thing was that after it all happened & we got our ticket, my daughter was like, "Daddy, green means go & red means stop." Even my son, who isn't driving yet, stated that you can only stop then go through stop signs & blinking red lights. Amazing...
Crazy Thing from Last Night: we have a houseguest for a week--my daughter's best friend (we'll call her BFF). My take on BFF is that she is very much like the crazy friend/crazy neighbor that shows up on sitcoms. She's kind of hyper & a little weird (I can take a little weird). Anyway, she spent the weekend at her fathers & came back in time for all of us to go to a friend's Super Bowl party (same friend as above, by the way). So we left the dog in the house while we went to the party, since it was only a few hours. When we got home, everyone went upstairs to get ready for bed. Then I heard DD & BFF making a fuss & mentioning the dog's name. When I went up, I saw an empty zip-lock bag on the floor. "What happened?" I asked. "Dog ate my chicken cutlets!" said BFF. Me: "What was food doing on the floor?" BFF: "It wasn't on the floor--it was in a bag, under a pile of clothes!" [yeah, ew!] So DH says: "No food in the bedrooms; food belongs in the kitchen." My son & I were chuckling about it a few minutes later, saying that the dog had his own Super Bowl party! Anyway, it's kind of gross that she hoards food like that (there were crackers & stuff there before that did end up in the kitchen). What kind of vermin must be in her own home!
