The optic tracts in N. phocaenoides, P. sinus, and P. phocoena are less differentiated. Rounded eminences representing the hypophyseal fossae posteromedial to the carotid canal casts are most obvious in P. dioptrica, and only slightly less prominent in P. spinipinnis (Fig. 7). This eminence is a shallower peanut-shaped cast in Ph. dalli. In the remaining specimens, the casts are less prominent but still transversely wide.
