Liquid Cooling - The Best Way to Cool Your Computer

Every computer generates heat during operation—heat that can destroy your hard drive, motherboard, GPU or CPU if not properly cooled. The best way to cool a computer is with a liquid cooling system.


Liquid cooling systems are often used in high-performance PCs because they offer better thermal regulation than air cooling. They also allow for more advanced overclocking. These systems use a pump that circulates water through "water blocks" that rest on top of the CPU. A thin metal baseplate and thermal paste sits between the water block and CPU to improve heat transfer. The hot fluid is then pumped to a radiator, where fans expose it to cold air for cooling. The cooled liquid moves back to the water block, and the cycle repeats.


PC cooling is important, especially if you plan to use your machine for video editing, gaming or another demanding task. It's best to avoid a thermal throttling event, which occurs when your CPU and other components start to run at their limits. Whether you choose air or liquid cooling depends on the performance and workloads you expect, as well as your acoustics preferences. If you want almost silent operation, optimal cooling and don't mind a slightly higher price tag, liquid cooling may be the best choice. For basic, entry-level PCs and those with limited space for radiators, an air cooler may be sufficient.
