went to the party with the chinese gift exchange - which is purely entertainment, not sentiment. the point is THEFT. you want your number to be called near the end when you can actually SEE most of the gifts from whoever opened it and choose one of those, rather than an unknown that is wrapped on a table or stage (this one was in an old auditorium. joa used to LOVE going to these yearly, but it can cause trouble. i have seen empty boxes at the chinese exchanges. shock. generally a host will have a supply of generic gifts for anyone getting anything that is very bad or empty. the british royal family used to do this as all gag gifts instead of real gifts amongst each other. also gifts aren't supposed to be the point of christmas, just as stealing shouldn't be either.
the presents are wrapped. at this one people spend as little as a $1 ornament and as much as a home-made knitted or constructed gift or re-gift or garage sale gift or baked gift costs. it totally varies. the most common theme was several themed items in a gift bag which could probably be purchased at a dollar store. the historical society did the same thing with themed baskets at their christmas party but their's was a chinese raffle, which i normally like, but they didn't have ANY practical baskets that looked good and no fifty-fifty. the problem with that is you can end up not getting anything at all if you don't win, and for some people the getting is the whole thing. to me, the giving is way more fun nowadays. i have too much stuff as it is. but winning is fun too.
the whole chinese gift exchange game is stealing, that makes it funny. if your gift is "stolen" you can steal someone else's OR go to the table and choose another wrapped gift and so on. generally there will be favorite gifts that are stolen over and over again. at this party amongst the men it was a santa hat with flaps for the ears and amongst the women it was a hand made shawl. also popular was a home made apple pie, a box of cookies, a glass jar of peanut m and m's with a wooden hand made holder. and a jar of peanut butter pretzels that is also sold at a dollar store or walmart. you never know what people are going to like - so that is funny too.
this one was done well, and very organized. there was a lot of home cooked food as was part of the invitation, to bring a covered dish and a gift. "fake, make or bake gift". there was also a couple there who has been doing work-camping for two years with their R.V. and is loving it. always interesting to meet people living differently. they work as guides and putting together exhibits at historical parks. cool.
sad to leave timeshare as we were at timeshare all week, however it got weird at the end. this timeshare is lovely and as always nicer environment than a hotel and should be safer as you can't just check into them, there should be privacy. easy to adapt to and fairly easy going. however, the first night a slept in the bedroom which also faces the terrace hallway. she complained that she was woken up around 3 a.m. we were on a higher floor so odd to hear anyone walking around on a higher floor? i didn't think anything of it. the people in the unit next to us have kids and were also up early each day yelling michael, michael a LOT at their youngest child. okay, next time i can bring a small fan and it blocks out the noise. by the end of the week it was a better rest to sleep in the livingroom that faced the ocean than to sleep in the bedroom. no one wanted the bedroom and the bed in there was fabulous, great soft linens and super comfortable but what good is it if you can't sleep straight through.
had a said, she was woken up THREE times and the times being 11:30, 3:30 and 6 a.m. i would have freaked. that is what the whore/stalker who has been going by our house for the passed two years does. guess what. that IS who it is. we need a copy of the surveillance film, that should be enough. its stalking big time. how in the world would that prostitute know where we were staying or that we were on vacation at all? super creepy. every single night, she came by and you could hear her in the hallway purposely trying to wake up everyone on our floor. wth? the people next to us said she was also knocking on the window as she walked by. the problem is she is always with another person and we wouldn't know which one is her, so both people would have to be arrested. the whole thing is pathetic and disgusting. wth?
they still insist she is as big a trouble maker in the country she comes from and that is the reason she is living in usa. she can't be in her own country at all. too weird. i said to j, did we go through this when we stayed anywhere else local? i don't remember that happening, but maybe this goes back longer than i think. i remember jm showing up at one of the timeshares a few years ago. we caught him. he had egg on his face when we got him. its like, don't you people have lives of your own, what the hell are you doing here? seriously. you aren't invited. you don't work here. you aren't staying here, so why are you here. talk about fixated. whacko. he couldn't even come up with a reason. and its like, if you were on vacation or resting at home, would YOU want someone stalking you? you wouldn't. we also caught tmp doing the same thing, but his boss took care of it for us and suspended him until he learned to be civilized. he's been fired since then. but talk about weird. with jm saying the golden rule do unto others as you would have them do unto you, became enough. plus his wife got on his case for acting like that. weird. just plain weird. if you wouldn't want it done to you, why are you doing it to anyone else? i already know the answer, it means stalkers are insane.
it also means the whore is dangerous. normal people don't stalk at all - stalking is a six year felony, and now she is stalking someone's vacation site. she was also using binoculars and telescopes to look into people's homes. she used to use the house as an excuse for her stalking saying she thought her landlord owned every house in our area. did you really think that, or are you just a jerk? even though we have told her straight out that no one in our area will ever rent to her. she is too much trouble - if there was no one else on planet earth we still wouldn't rent to her. get it through your head. why the fixation. its NOT houses then, that's fixating her either - if it was the house, she wouldn't be following us to our vacation site. CREEPY. you are INSANE weirdo.
still have more things to go to for the holidays. really surprised how much is going on. wow! also i get back up north and there is more crap with work as well. they did end of the year audits and one of the guy's company is short 900,000 and he is the one that is supposed to be balancing those books so he got fired. wth? i kept saying 900,000 or 9000 as you move a decimal and it becomes something else. scary. wouldn't want that job. another left from there two months ago, he said he was offered the same job and same money working for a smaller company, which means tons less work. what a weird week. we were also reinstated our christmas "bonus" this week. big surprise. we haven't had that since the recession started 8 years ago. the bonus is food, but its still nice since its pricey food. this is the only large company i've ever worked for that doesn't give cash bonuses for christmas.

Before Beethoven, before Mozart... there was Pachelbel. Canon in D is my absolute favorite classical song. Well done Johann!!

Pachelbel is played up and down these days, but Canon in D was one of many hits that he wrote. He was very successful during his lifetime, and there are many more pieces he wrote which are marvelous.
And if it hadn\'t been for a coincidence in the 70 ies, we would not even have the pleasure of this song, as he was pretty much a forgotten composer by the mainstream crowds.
