Lillian may have had a point

I swear sometimes when I deal with the misadventures of my adult(?) offspring I can't help but remember what Lillian Carter (Jimmie's mom) said once. I believe what she said was "sometimes when I look at the lives of my children I wish I had remained a virgin!"  Wise woman, that Lillian.  The latest misadventure of my brood happened last night/early this morning. One of my sons (Name omitted to protect the guilty) had gone out with his friends and gotten gloriously drunk to celebrate the 4th. He then fell and cut his hand. First I hear of all this is when I get a call from the ER to pick him up. When I arrived, he hadn't been released by the ER doctor yet.  As I was taken to the examination room where he was being treated, I began to cough pretty badly. I guess it may have been due to the combination of my fatigue, the cold air in the ER and my being a little annoyed with the reason I was called out. Next thing I know is that they are trying to treat me.(It just gets better and better).  After taking a seat and using my inhaler...and promising faithfully to take a breathing treatment when I got home...I was just able to avoid becoming another patient. I had to sit for a bit to clear my head so I wasn't unhappy that the doc hadn't signed my son's release paper. It gave me a little time to recover.  Around 2:30 am I finally was able to take him home. He absolutely reeked of beer. Once home, he went to his room to sleep it off. The way he smelled, he may sleep until Tuesday. I tried to lecture him on the evils of alcohol but he was jus too far out of it. That's OK, I'll be here when he wakes up.   I took my breathing treatment as I promised the good folks at the ER.  My coughing was then well controlled but sleep was out of the question for awhile. All that albuterol does charge you up a bit. I finally was able to get to sleep at about dawn. What a night...Lillian, I may not totally agree...but I understand. Be well,Tom
