Lilacs in the snow
I felt the cold and dormant branch. The picture I had just uploaded was quite the contrast. Every Spring we so enjoyed the scent of one of the most beautiful flowers that God graced this Earth with. The weekend afternoons when I would strategically place our chairs down breeze, we would talk, then gently dose while Matt serenaded us with his CDs. All the while that scent. As I stood here now in the cold of the polar vortex, I marveled at how tears cool, then freeze so quickly. Just for a very fleeting moment, I considered how easy it would be just to lie down beneath it, and let Her wake me. Instantly, I knew the disappointment I would see in her eyes, and my love for my son would never allow such nonsense. As I turned, and walked back to the warmth of my son's smile, and Sharry's approval, I wondered how a lilac could ever bloom again without her, and would I ever be able to bear the sight or the scent.
