like a wet dish rag
that's how I feel today, and that's how much energy I have.
I've had this thing going off and on with my throat/laryngitis. First a minor sore throat, then no soreness but my voice got suddenly hoarse and baritone. Now the voice is back, but it hurts to swallow.
Plus I had a sudden attack of diarrhea out of the blue yesterday afternoon. I think because I had been bragging about not having any more IBS stuff except for once in a while. It was awful, but I felt like I was okay afterwards. I took a loong hot shower and put on some comfortable clothes and had a non eventful evening. Then, just when I thought I was out of the woods.... seven hours after the first episode .. I had a repeat performance. I took another loong hot shower, and stayed up for an hour past my bedtime. I took Immodium and eventually felt it was "safe" to go to bed.
Today, as might be expected, I feel like crap. I have zero energy and I'm dragging my ass along with both hands.
One thought is that the GI upset could be due to my "no sugar - no starch" diet. I'm on day fourteen now. The first week went better than I expected. I was regular and didn't have any maddening cravings. I did have headachy episodes and sudden bouts of deep fatigue, but otherwise okay. This week I haven't been too "regular" and bad constipation can cause diarrhea as the body overcompensates. However, with the sore throat thing thrown in I'm wondering if I picked up a bug. 51 hours without power and no running water for flushing or washing doesn't make for very sanitary living conditions.
In any case - it sucks. I have things that need doing and I need some energy.
I have lost 10 pounds thus far, and I think I may lose a couple more due to the wash out and not daring to eat anything solid today.
I've been sipping chicken bouillon and tea. Imagine my horror when I looked at the label of the bouillon and saw SUGAR. Flocking hell! I have two different kinds of bouillon - one cubes and one granular. The cube kind label starts with salt (yeah that's fine - I need it to restore my balance), but next ingredient is "hydrolyzed corn protein, then SUGAR, then Corn Syrup Solids.
The other kind is worse - it's sodium free but the very first ingredient on the list is Sugar. Further down the list is maltodextrin, and dextrose besides. No wonder these taste so good and are so soothing.
I pride myself on being a pretty thorough label detective, and I knew bouillon is loaded with sodium and I expected a lot of additives, but I never thought I'd see sugar among them, and in several forms. The granular even has honey in it.
It's okay. I mean there's only 1 gram of sugars and 1 gram of carb, and that's not going to kill me or "blow" my diet, but it's just an eye opener. It's virtually impossible to be 100% sugar free.
