Lightmares

It has been suggested by many persons I respect that reading my journal might be even more therapeutic than writing it has been. I try from time to time. Tried just now before I began this entry. Again I abandoned the effort quicker than a child testing spinach and onions. Just can't do it without major league flashbacks to the whatever's of the space in which they were written. Developing the thoughts is one thing. Reliving the episode is ...
Exploring dreams in therapy is like going to the hardware store for bread. In my experience, contemporary psych believes in dream prevention far more than understanding them. I dearly love my dream world. I will give up television and therapy long before I give up my dreams, even at the price of the nightmare episodes. Most of my nightmares are more insightful than a horror movie. I consider them worth the price.
The lightmares are a new class of dream for me. They have only begun in recent years. Can't really say how many years, but not many. I cannot seem to reach beyond the horrific blast of light which jolts me awake in full hysteria. I cannot remember the dream itself. That is not normal for my vivid dream recall. To my current recall, I have never had a recurring or serial dream I could not unravel. Yet the lightmares remain no more than the nerve jolting light. The jolt is sufficient to explain forgetting the dream. The jolt feels like a lightening bolt. Like the combined effects of super-charged light and electricity.
During the last series of lightmares I tried sketching the images. The sketches all have animal shadows in them. My animal dreams are, far and away, my favorite dreams. The tidbit I wanted to find in my earlier entries is whether or not I speculated during the heat of the last episode that my lightmares are my beloved animal dreams. Dreams of nocturnal animals showing me the impact our lights have on them. Especially in their moment of becoming road kill.
no matter. They are only dreams.
