Life with Hypoparathyroidism
I just had a thyroidectomy on Oct. 19, 2015. Right after the surgery I was told that one of my parathyroids was embedded in my thyroid gland, but that 3 were left and hopefully not damaged so that they may start working again. I did not feel confident by how the doctor said might work again, so I am trying to prepare for this lifetime experience. It does not sound like much fun.
So far, I have had good times during my days and very bad times. I had a lot more high anxiety in the beginning, but seem to be able to control it a bit now. My bp is also pretty high, actually real high since the surgery, mostly at night. I have to take extra bp medicine since then too.
I have only had one lab result so far of PTH, where it is pretty non-existent at 5.5. I have had a couple calcium readings one 7.6 and next one was 8.6. I am waiting on new lab results to help my endo doc figure out where I stand and what I need to carry on.
This is a huge burden on you if you are going through this, then you know. I have already been in the ER one time since Oct. 19th it is only Nov. 1st. I just pray I can some how keep it under control so I don't have to go back. I would even like to be able to go out w/o feeling horrid and either having to come home or take more calcium.
That is about it for now. Other then I have had some hope from others, which is nice. When I first found out I had terrible high anxiety and worry too.
