Life is good
Dear friends,
I haven't written in a while so I thought I would update. Steve will finish another round of Sutent on Tuesday of next week. This 3 week on and 1 week off has really worked for him. He continues to have some side effects but none that he can't manage. Even the dreaded sore feet has subsided and that was the worst side effect he had.
We did talk to the doctor about a new trail drug being studied. I think I told about it last time. No name yet, just a number. Oh how I pray that a cure will come in our lifetime. So many people are suffering. A friend of my daughter dad has been put on Sutent because of a remission. One more person being put on a drug. I pray it works for him.
We have been steady paying off bills. For a while we just lived for the moment and we still do somewhat but we have being trying to put things in order. Who knows I may go first but we are trying to make things easier for the one left behind. He has taken care of me all these years and he continues to try to care for me if something does happen. Cancer leaves so many in dire straights financially and he wants me to be taken care of. I surely don't want to live with my children, one would freeze me to death and the other one has a spouse that would be hard to live with. They have their lives and I don't want to be in the way. If push come to shove I can always sell out and get a small condo and be ok. Only thing is this has been my home for an eternity and I would hate to give up the house and land.
Why am I talking about this, I don't know. I may get to heaven before Steve and that will be ok. (Why I lost my font, don't know) LOL Not going to strain my brain on that one!
Have a blessed weekend and I like so many others are so grateful for all of you. My friends, my cyber buddies and those I lift in prayer. I love you all.

Hi Hon,
Ray and I talk about the same things that you and Steve are discussing. Our son and his family just bought 7 1/2 acres with a gorgeous home. Ray said that if I\'m left alone, I should build a small cottage on this land, so I\'d be closer to our son. Of course, if I did that...it would be left to him. With four children, sure a guest house would come in handy. I hate thinking about things like this....but I do so appreciate Ray\'s desire to see that I\'m well cared for if he has to leave me. Sure you know that Steve feels the same way about you, darlin. I have no desire to live with either of our children either. We need our space...not to mention having our own ways of doing things...like how we set the thermostat. hee! hee!
So glad to hear that Steve is doing well on the new regiment of Sutent. He must hold a record for being on this drug. I pray that it will continue to work well for him.
Sending lots of love,
Ingrid
I think planning for the future is part of our coping mechanism kicking in. Even with all that is survived we do need to plan all the \'what ifs\'
Rest well.
:-) Patricia
Dear sweet Wanda,
Planning is always good, and never thought I would have to do those kind of things myself but the last few years made me realize we all have to do that, and some don\'t get a chance... Prayers continued for you and Steve , hugs... Annette
Dear Wanda, I\'m glad that Steve\'s health is stable. I hope it stays that way for a very long time... As far as the financial planning is concerned, it has to be difficult to do. I could never discuss finances with M. I was too immature to handle the topic. I just figured if there wasn\'t any money, I\'d go to work, or find a roommate to share expenses with. However, when M knew he was going into hospice, he wanted his financial planner to come over. He did... and, he went over the finances with M assuring him that I would be okay. I think this made M feel peace. I forced myself to pay attention to this because it was important to M...but, at the time, all I could think about was that I was going to lose M. I was blessed to have such a thoughtful husband as are you. Take care until we meet. Love, Linda
Wanda..Planning is good regardless of who goes first...in our case we knew Buddy was terminal and he planned and made us go to a lawyer to get wills..he made an appointment for an alarm system to be installed and and 12 days before he left this world we were at the Jeep dealship trading in our two cars to get me a new one...he gave our snow blower to our neighbor so he would do my driveway and he left me a list as to where to scatter his ashes and also another list with 26 line items on how to do things and how much he loved me...he was a precious man...only ever thinking of the ones he loved...he even called his ex wife and settled things with her...they really threw away the mold after Buddy was born...life without him will never be the same...but I know he cared for me and loved me like no other...Hugs, Ellen ps Glad Steve his doing well and I agree about cures for cancer ..can\'t come fast enough..
Dear Wanda - I very much admire you for being able to talk about the financial stuff. D and I don\'t do it, and I know that things will be very hard for me if/when D goes too soon. I can\'t force the issue, as it sort of seems that I don\'t have faith that he\'ll be around for a long time if I try and bring things up. I also have the feeling that if D does leave this world, then financial worries will seem small fry compared with the emotional brick that will fall on my chest. Don\'t know. I know that I can\'t pay the mortgage, but I also know that this house is practically unsaleable for various reasons. It\'s head in the sand for me at the moment, and it doesn\'t make for peace of mind. This all happened too soon into our lives together. I feel that everything is so precarious. And now I\'ve said far too much, and made this all about me. Not my intention.
all love to you and Steve, and just a big congrats to him for toughing it out so long.
with much love, Meriel
Hi Wanda,
You two are so very lucky to have each other and more time. How we both wanted MORE time. Much more. Tom and I did not talk about certain final kinds of things. Did it matter? Maybe yes, maybe no. But I am positive that he trusted my judgment - he always did, and I felt confident in each decision that I had to make with regard to the final arrangements. As for finances, that was actually my domain - with his input and help, but mainly I was in charge. We did take care of all the legal aspects and respected each others\' wishes implicitly. But for the most part, Tom would just ask occasionally \"Are we okay with money?\". I assured him that all was well, and he really knew that anyway. We were careful, frugal people both, and planned ahead. Never did we make impetuous decisions, and so right now things are stable for me in that sphere. Just as they would have been for him had I been the first to leave this precious earth. The truth is you HAVE to think about it, you should talk about it. Life tomorrow is guaranteed for no one. You will both relax knowing all is planned and done.
Love to you both. Gloria
so glad you and Steve are ok and this treatment is working lov ya Donna
Hi Wanda,
your journal was a very good and smart to write, thier are alot of people who are left devastated without any savings to live on.. I am so glad that Steve is doing so well, this is such a comfort for you, i\'m sure.. Tim is doing well on the Votrient, which we both are so pleased..
Continued good treatments to us both and to all that are doing treatments..
Much love & many prayers,
Becca
I am so glad that Steve is responding well to this treatment. It is heatening to hear. I think that planning is a good thing. I tell everyone I know now about making sure that their spouse is taken care of. Having been on the other side of it, I don\'t want to see anyone else have to do it for lask of planning and thought. Its good to plan, and usually it should have been done years earlier. Hope things continue on such a positive note. Hugs to you both.......Jane
