Life is better

I am doing tremendously better.  I found a bereavement support group that was for parents who have lost adult children and for the first time  since it happened I felt like I belonged somewhere.  The counsler who leads the group has been doing bereavement counseling for 20 years and is so helpful.  I have since switched over to a different support group, led by the same man, that is for anyone grieving who has complicated circumstances and that was definitely me.
I am learning how to cope with all the loss in my life and to move forward.  One thing he told me has really hit home.
He describes our life before the loss as walking along a familiar path.  I know what to expect on this path, enjoy walking there and know what my plans are for this path.
Suddenly, I am picked up and moved to an entirely different path.  I fight to get back to my original path and I yearn for the comfort of the original path but no matter how hard I try, I will never be able to return to the old road.  I now must learn to accept the new path I am on.  It will be a rocky one but if I continue on with the new path and work at it I will begin to enjoy my new road.
I am beginning to enjoy this road even though I yearn for the old one but I am working at making this road as good as possible.  I accept that there is no going back, the people I loved and lost will always be in my memory and I will never stop loving them.
