Life deserves a chance

Sunday morning my husband discovered a baby bird in our driveway.  It was not injured, but it was too young to fly. He picked it up with gloves on and brought it into the house to show it to me. This was the cutest thing I have ever seen! It was alert, had a black sort of mask on it's face and it's calls sounding somewhat like a cricket. We tried to feed it some wet bread, but it would not open it's beak. My husband placed the baby on a branch and I called an emergency Vet.  Some great gal on the other end gave me a few phone numbers for wild life people and organizations. It was a Sunday, but one gal called me back on her cell phone.  We described the bird and she said it sounded like a "Cedar wax-wing" which is a pretty rare bird. She asked if we wanted to bring it to her house. We knew we could not care for it properly so we drove about 45 minutes to this gal's house with the baby in a small box. She lived in a beautiful stone house, and she was a wildlife (bird) rehabilatator. She said it was a Wax-wing she would care for it this week, and then transfer it to someone else who had an Aviary and then set it free when the tail wings developed. Thank God we brought it there, since there were flooding rains that night and it would not have survived.
I tell you, I was so impressed and grateful that there are people like that up here and in all parts of the country. So grateful that there are people that care about wildlife and take the time to make sure that they survive.   Gave me a renewed sense of appreciating some people.
