Life Changed....

Almost two weeks ago my dad had a stroke that left him paralyzed on his right size and left him in the ICU for 5 days. He spent another day in the PICU. After remaining on a normal floor they finally transferred him to a rehabilitation center. He is going through physical therapy and speech therapy as well as learning normal things that one needs to do everyday. He is starting to form small sentences but they come very slow and with great effort. His right hand is slowly waking up but his leg remains useless. He is still on oxygen.
The other day I took him pictures of his doggies to help cheer him up. When I visit he always looks over to me like he wishes to say so much but cant. He looks frustrated. When I go to leave and tell him I love him with everything he can muster the words come out slow and slurred but…he always responds with “I love you too”.
Tomorrow is Fathers Day. I arranged to have the family come down to his rehab center so we can have a picnic. Grant it he will be in a wheel chair but I want him to see how much we love him and are pulling for him to get better. My step mom is bringing the doggies to visit him, his favorite dinner, and I am bringing some strawberry short cake. We have balloons and presents for him to open. I hope this cheers him up.
I was thinking today how much our lives have changed and how we are adjusting. My dad will probably not be able to build things or handle tools like he used to and he may need me to drive him around but its better than not having him at all. I know his quality of life will get better but he has to want it.
I can do nothing but tell him I love him, to fight it, and to pray…
Gods I hope he can get through this…
Hope everyone is well.
