Letting go......
Yes - T is still home on a school morning at 9AM. He is still feeling the side effects from his weekend usage (the lack of sleep part). In the past I would nag him, yell at him, and threaten him if he didn't get out of bed. Not this time ......no more. He has to learn that there are consequences for his actions. I had to call Sargent Friday (probation officer) and leave a message telling him that T was tardy. This fellow is so robotic. Heard that he's a great guy but he is so stiff....really plays the role. He even calls me madam. At least I can find some humor in this. I told his counselor (who knows him) that it's harder to call him than the attendance lady at school. She laughed. Actually, I love the attendance lady but I hate having to call the school when he's late etc. Thinking of switching treatment centers, if he doesn't get bumped up. This one isn't working for us.....at least for the family part of the program. Not sure what to do. Put a call into his case worker. If we leave this facility and go to another outpatient, then we will have to leave the program and won't have the case worker. If he goes to the inpatient program than we can stay in it. Kind of at a crossroad right now. Time will tell. Heard from some of the people I contacted regarding my packet idea. The packet will be for parents who just find out about their teen's usage. A lot of enthusiasm for this idea. I am happy about that. I need this outlet.....especially since I'm so passionate about it. Found out that the job I was supposed to start at might not happen until next month. God works in mysterious ways because I couldn't have started now with T's relapse and not going to school on time or having to leave (like yesterday) because he's not feeling well.....

I have started a reply several times, and find that my observations about T are harsh and not particularly helpful. So, instead, I am writing to acknowledge your willingness to let him have consequences that you do not have to dole out --- this is a positive step!!!!! I am thrilled that the packet has been so well received -- it seems so obvious but I am sure that the \"professional staff\" are strapped for time......so, your efforts here will make a very real difference in the lives of other parents. Once again, you have had the courage to turn a very painful experience into positive action that matters. I really appreciate your willingness to look beyond your personal circumstances and reach out to others in need. Surely, you set the example for others to follow!!!!!! Take Care!
