Letter to Husband's Ex-Friend
I hope you are well. I haven't seen you since my wedding in 2007. If I heard correctly from X (he gets some things mixed up), you weren't interested in speaking to him anymore after his addiction came to light. X and I are now divorced and I don't talk to him much, either. I'm writing about the $2,500 we loaned you on our wedding day. I seem to remember that X sent you an email explaining that this was my money and you should talk directly to me about it. To put this in perspective: This is a drop in the bucket compared to the tens of thousands of dollars X cost me during our relationship. In 2009 alone, he cost me $8,000 in legal fees and medical expenses, and we don't even see each other, so you can imagine how much worse it was when we were living together. That said, every drop counts. The amount I loaned you was over a month's income during a time when I was really struggling because X had the addict stranglehold on my account. I'm doing OK these days financially. I have a good job. I'm breaking even. If you are not in a position to return the money, then it is what it is. If you are, I'll be at this address for at least another year. Be well.
