Lets just take it from bad to worse..
I just got off the phone with the school guidance counselor. AND I AM FURIOUS... and scared.
So my son is autistic - high functioning. He has ZERO social skills, especially social problem solving skills. but he is SUPER smart.
Will is in 3rd grade. He is 9. He is small in stature. He is afeminate and loves to spend time with pretty girls.
My son got turned in today for threatening to kill kids at the school. Note the timing - not great. So they took it seriously, called him down and started asking him why he would make these threats... finding out... oh, he never did. Will went on to tell them he had threatened to kill himself because he no longer wants to come to school. Why? because my son cried in class and some boys thought it was funny to call him a baby and a sissy.
Will really struggles to make friends. We have been here a year and will has ZERO friends. after 2 years at his old school, he made a friend ONE FRIEND just a few months before we moved. Can you imagine how frustrating it was to him when he finally made afriend nad then we moved and he had to start all over again.
Will talked about how these boys felt like hundreds because these boys are popular and he is not, and he feels like the whole school thinks he is a baby and a sissy now.
Then.. oh man ... Then the guidance counselor asks what I am going to do to help him.
I WORK IN THE MENTAL HEALTH FIELD! My son has a BSC and an MT, he participates in a socail skills building group outside of school for high functioning autistic kids. He participates in tae kwon do and church youth. I have worked with him 1 on 1 for years at the play ground, skating rink, zoo... anywhere we are ... in understanding social rules and expectations nad how to be more age typical blending. I plraise him continuiosly for any progress he makes in any area. I support him to do anything he wants to do and to be his own person and how special and wonderful he is.
After explaining this to her, I turned it on her and said - now what are you doing to help him generalize these skills into your school setting. I asked them when we moved there if they could place him in a social group - they didn't have any. I asked her again if they could do something like that - she had no idea what I meant. SHE IS A GUIDANCE COUNSELOR! she talked about a breakfast group they had on mondays for kids who have a hard time transitioning back to school and a group on Tuesdays and Thursdays for peer homework tutoring if he needed that. NO - HE NEEDS A SOCIAL GROUP.
then I asked if she had talked to the other boys. Yes. and you verified they were lying about my son and calling him names. Yes. So how are you going to handle that. "Well, I told them it was wrong." IT WAS WRONG?! that's it? "well, and the one boy sad he would appologize to will." oh, how nice - because they were caught, they are going to tell you whatever you want to help them stay out of trouble. I was furious.
The she asks me if I could give her some matterials. ... She asked me this when we moved here and the beginning of this year both and each time I have provided her with programing to assist her with building a socail group for kids for building social skills and social problem solving skills. But she didn't use any of that and does not remember ever asking me for that, but here I am being asked again.
BUCH OF *!@#$%* (incert terms here) !!!
I am just sick of public schools.
Anything else want to come get me?

She is a sorry excuse for a guidance counselor .I wonder what kind of training she had .
Maybe , you should go to the principal about this matter .
I think more action NEEDS to be taken against the other boys to show your son that he has done NOTHING wrong .
Poor little guy .
