Learning BIG from the SMALLEST people....

I have been trying to keep up with everyone but since school started the days just fly by. I never thought I would EVER be one of those busy " Career Mom's" I have always worked but it's just different now. It's not just a job anymore to bring home a little extra cash to help out. I AM ACTUALLY PROUD OF WHAT I DO NOW SO MUCH. Plus no more H to lean on everything is on ME to give Austin and Shelby and myself the best life possible. I have been learning so much from my students they are so AMAZING. Some of them just have terrible stories drug abused parents, C.P.S. cases where they were removed from their homes, emtional and physical abuse no child shoud have to start out in life that way. But they come in every day with smiles and hugs. Their faces looking up at me in anticipation waiting, wondering what new thing are you going to teach us today. With Kindergarten it's all about Imagination, Exploration, Friends, Kindness and of course Comfort and Security.
Then one day I was just watching them and I remembered that book from years ago. It was called " Everything you need to know in Life, You learn in Kindergarten" It talks about all the basic life skills you carry with you forever you learn in Kindergarten. Getting along with others, Setting boundries, Hurting someone's feelings, Working out Conflicts, RESPECT!!! Respect for Others and for SELF. Respecting others Property, SHARING, RESPONSIBILITY!!! Respecting someone's space.... and so on and so on. I try to teach my students to always Respect each other, to always feel empathy and remorse if they cause someone harm even if it as an accident YOU STILL NEED TO SAY YOUR SORRY. At my school sometimes the older children kick the soccer ball over the fence and hit a teacher's car. The student must go to the teacher who's car was hit apologize and take RESPONSIBILITY. When school is out that student must go with his/her parent around back and bring the soccer ball back into school.
As I thought today about all the lessons we try to teach our students about accountability, and responsibility so they are better prepared to go out into a world that doesn't want to hear " THAT'S NOT FAIR AND IT WASN'T MY FAULT OR MY FAVORITE WELL I DIDN'T MEAN TOO" We always tell the students intentional or not your actions or choices caused someone or something harm. Then there is a CONSEQUENCE!!!!!! Why do we lose this as adults? At what age do we stop holding each other accountable? I know for me I stopped holding my stbx accountable years ago. Without even realizing it I just quietly swept all his crap under the rug and NEVER HELD HIM RESPONSIBLE. Maybe instead of trying to re live his High School days like an IDIOT he should go all the way back to KINDERGARTEN and learn the basic values of life................
