Late Christmas
The holiday season is well and truly over. We were in Edmonton this weekend for our belated Christmas turkey! We passed about 30 vehicles in the ditch during the first 30 miles. Luckily, our side of the highway was not as slippery so we had a slow but safe drive. We shared 'Christmas dinner' on Sunday with Andrew, Tiina and Tiina's parents. Today, I made croquettes for lunch, our Foley Christmas family tradition. We drove home this afternoon as we have an exercise class tomorrow. As we were about to leave, Andrew said "Now we have really had Christmas". Of course, I thought of Lisa as we enjoyed our dinner and of course the croquettes.
New Years was quiet. Joe volunteers at the Arts Centre. They had trouble finding someone to direct patrons on New Years Eve. We had no plans so he said yes. I was going to meet him downtown for the celebration but I am not fond of the cold. I went to the neighbours for dinner and wine. We were both home and asleep before 11!
It made me think of New Years when I was a child. Our neighbours used to get together and for a sauna (I am Finnish and sauna was a social occasion) and celebration. At midnight Dad would shoot his gun at midnight. One neighbour would melt some metal and pour it into cold water and tell our fortunes. I recall one year, we didn't go to any parties. So Dad managed to get an Eastern radio station so we listened to the celebration in Time Square. My parents have been gone since the mid 70s.
We didn't do much celebrating when Lisa and Andrew were small. We usually spent them with friends. Of course when Lisa became a teenager, she did her fair share of celebrating.
I have no idea what 2017 has in store. Nothing surprises me any more so bring it on! We are going to Ottawa on the 25th to cuddle babies. I would share photos but have no idea how to do it!
Lisa: Your granddaughters are beautiful. I can't wait to visit them later on this month. I will cuddle and spoil the for 2 weeks! I know you are with them but I wish they could know you. I miss you always and love you forever, Mummy

Holiday time is always reflective for me and thank goodness for our precious memories of the past and ability to create some new ones too.

If you click on "edit" it will take you to a set of options and if you click on profile settings you can browse and upload photos for your avatar and cover photo. Not a lot of options for sure, yet something to play around with in all your "spare" time. lol! Hope that helps? :)

Marlene, as I try to imagine how you feel looking at those precious babies and how you so would love it if Lisa were here, I have tears in my eyes. How wonderful that you are here to hold them, give them hugs and tell them all about their grandma, Lisa - BUT how hard it must be for you ..... Just want you to know, I'm thinking about you.
