last pay check in bank, now we pray and hope

Good morning journal, the time is 7:30am,I am awake and on my first mug of coffee of the day.Having checked our bank,my wife informs me that our last pay check has been deposited,a little more than we expected, but,as with elastic,it will only stretch so far;so now we pay what bills we can,and pray and hope for a small miracle to enable us to keep our heads above water. My cognitive behavioral therapist called and cancelled our last session because of bad weather,he didn't want to risk me falling on the ice,so we rescheduled it to the 10th of February,my doctor has increased my anti-depressant med,and life meanders on regardless. On the plus side,I have at last heard from the hospital regarding my hearing aids,I shall be fitted with my "new ears" on February 5th,the same day as I get blood drawn for my diabetic clinic;busy day,so don't expect an entry journal!. It will be rather nice to hopefully hear people when they speak to me instead of lip reading all the time,I find that hearing people, when they encounter a deaf,or hearing impaired person,do one of several things. They either shout their conversation at you, talk to the person you are with so that they can then translate to you,or attempt some crude form of sign language rather like charades because they think that being deaf makes you somehow a little slow.Just face me,speak clearly in a normal volume, enunciate well, and I can,and will, read what your saying by simply following what your lips are telling me;I have done so for years,I managed to have a singing career of over thirty years being almost totally deaf, and thanks to thin soled shoes and the beat through my feet,I never,as far as I know, missed a note!. I was fortunate not to have been born deaf,my hearing loss occurred as a result of an accident at the age of nineteen,I was blown up when an oxygen cylinder exploded in my face,I lost the sight in my left eye, total hearing in my left ear,and severe impairment in my right, resulting in me being totally dependent on my right side for visibility and hearing. That accident ended my time in the military, and helped me concentrate on my new career in the entertainment business, and, with the assistance of some hugely talented, and understanding musicians,I was successful beyond my imaginings.I used to always keep the drummer on my right side, keyboard player slightly behind and to the right, and a monitor directly in front of me that played back on stage to me the sound that was being projected to the audience from the overhead speakers onstage.I would look at the drummer,he would count me in by letting me lipread, one, two, three, four,or whatever beat was required, synchronize his sticks with his lips, and we were on.My choice of very thin soled shoes then helped me "hear" the song through the vibrations in my feet, simple and effective;so effective in fact, that members of the audience speaking to me after a show, were unaware that I was deaf unless I told them, which I very rarely did. Most people who do not know a person is deaf will face them and speak normally, unaffected by what they might think a deaf person might need to "hear" them,so lip reading is very easy after some practice, and conversation is easily understood by a deaf person, even in a crowded and noisy room, and we have the better deal in noisy situations,as the hearing person is always the first to say "pardon?",when they can't hear what your saying to them;ironic, but very true!. Well journal,I have lots to do today,I don't know quite how we got around to my deafness this morning,no matter,I guess it was meant to come out, that's why I like coming here, lip reading is so easy!!. Until the next time then, peace and understanding walk with us.

My admration for you and your wife continues to grow by leaps and bounds. You have already gone through so many things that would have defeated most people long ago. What a difficult time this must be for you. How I wish I were rich, and you and your wife would never have to worry about finances again! Since I am not, however, I can only offer my prayers, words of encouragement, and a shoulder whenever you need it. Take care of yourself, my friend, and give my love to your wife.
