Last Days

Winter vacation is almost over. Wow! That was among the shortest 3 weeks of my life. Hubs is making plans to work out of the urban homestead early next week, after he drops the two elder GKs off with the other grandparents. The CPS investigation remains convoluted between investigators attempting to balance their cruel caseloads and family confusion. It is good that the GKs have so many caring adults in their lives, but communication between all those branches feels more challenging than the CINCUSAEUR communications I sorted during NATO military exercises. I am guessing the new granddaughter is with the other grandparents by now. My clues to where the parental units are or will be are equally vague. With the middle aged children, I am continuing to, "Let go and let God."

Big sister's birthday is Monday, the same day Big Brother goes back to school. My notion of today is to let Big Sister pick out her own birthday present, trusting that her 3 year old memory will forget picking it out between leaving the farm with it wrapped on Sunday and her urban birthday party on Monday. Given the family chaos this year, it wouldn't be much of a surprise if opening that present is all the birthday party she gets this year. Personally, I don't see that as the greatest tragedy in the family this year. Her almost 3 year old awareness is still a bit vague on what this birthday biz means, anyway.

Little Raptor is still defensive in her new cage, and still does not seem to be eating or drinking, but I remain hopeful I can win her over. I have no doubt she likes the bird cage with its 4 perches much better than the animal carrier, but I remain uncertain if her captivity is humane. I have found internet info which makes me think kestrels make great pets. We see what grows.
