Ladybug

On this day last year, there was over 2 feet of snow on the ground. This morning, I looked out my window and it was raining and there was no snowflake in sight!

I had no orders today but there was work I could have done but I didn't feel like doing it because yesterday was very busy.  I think I shipped out 5 or 6 orders. A couple of them were custom orders meaning I had to do extra work on them. It's time consuming but I usually charge extra for my time.  I got done just in time to make it to the Post office before it closed so today was like a vacation day.

There was a lady bug on my kitchen counter and I was going to throw it outdoors but my ex wife was with me at the time and she told me it's bad luck to kill a ladybug, so I let it be.  Not wanting to disappoint her, I did my best to watch out for the little girl...I had to watch out for it when I vacuumed the floors or moved things around on an end table or when I sat in my chair, for fear I might sit on her and crush her to death.  I know this all sounds silly but when something so small can make another person happy, I tend to play along with it. 

One day, we noticed it was close to the kitchen sink, not moving. She was acting strange.  Usually she is flying around from room to room or crawling around somewhere because she likes to explore but when we saw her not moving near the sink, we were very concerned and wondered what was wrong, so we tried to come up with ideas.  I said,  she might be thirsty since she is near the sink so we decided to try to give her some water. I took a spoon, filled it with water and dumped it in front of her....which must have seemed like a tsunami through the eyes of the ladybug! We stood next to the sink hunched over the ladybug, waiting for her to move. It looked like she went about 1/8 of an inch toward the puddle of water and we got all excited and tried to cheer her on!  I gave her a push with the end of my finger but she did not move.  I must have scared her and she was playing dead.  

I said, "do you realize how foolish this would look to someone seeing too grown adults hunched over an insect trying to save it's life,"  and we both laughed hysterically!

We walked off and did other things and never noticed the ladybug had disappeared sometime later in the day.  We speculated that the dog may have ate it but a few days later, I saw her crawly up the living room window.  The sun had come out after the rain and she was enjoying the heat! Now that I think of it, she loves playing the hide and seek game. After spotting her on the window trying to get a sun tan, she disappeared again for several days but last night while reclining in my lazy boy, relaxing after a long day,  I gazed up at the ceiling and there she was, going for an upside down stroll headed toward the ceiling fan.
