Labor Day 2011

OK, I am taking Kathi's advise and journaling this weekend.  As you guys know, I'm not very good at journaling on a regular basis. I reply to topics which is my journal (sort of).
As of this Labor Day, I am 1 1/2 years post divorce.  My divorce was fast (60 days from separation).  I have now left Idaho for "greener pastures" in WV.  I have started a new job and I have one son and daughter-in-law living in town with me.  My other son is still in Idaho and I miss him a lot.  He is so busy with his senior activities and I talk to him every night.
I still fall prey to loneliness but I am fortunate to be so busy that those moments are fleeting.  I hope that I will find companionship but I don't know if I am putting myself out there much.  I try to be friendly and I can usually carry on a conversation with anyone.  Strangely enough, I think having a Ph.D. limits me because I'm not sure guys like that much.  I know, I know, I can hear you guys (Trish, Kathy) yelling at me for that comment. Sorry, for now I believe it to be true.  Maybe a year from now I won't.
Today I had a blast going to the Pirates/Astros game even though my team lost and it rained the whole game.  I love MLB and I am sure that won't change.  Driving just 2 1/2 hours to a game is heaven!
Well that's about it for this journal.  I hope I can look back on it and feel some sense of accomplishment a year from now!

Glad to see you journaled. Now. I loved WV when I went. Well.. had I gone for better reasons I would have. How close are you to Norfolk, say. Did the hurricanes bother you with more then just rain? Hope no flooding and all.
Glad you have one son there. I know it\'s hard not being with both. When in OK i cried for daughter. When here in Nev. i cry for son. haha. can\'t win.

Wow! OnceLoved definitely has the \"hiccups\" LOL.
This is a good start, Diane. And once again, keep these journals (I kept all mine in hand-written notebooks) and go back from time to time to \"measure\" the changes in your life.
I\'m glad 2.5 hours of driving doesn\'t seem like a lot to YOU! And there seems to be a lot of stuff going on over there in WV where you live. Being in an academic community should be right up your alley -- don\'t worry about men \"not liking\" the fact that you have a Ph.D. If they have a problem with it, then they definitely aren\'t the ones for you!
I have a good feeling about your new location and I KNOW that something wonderful will happen for you!
Keep this up! and staying busy is a very good thing!

I think for the right man it won\'t matter to him, but I know what you are saying. My EX only had a high school education. He was able to get a job that paid pretty high with out any college. He had lots of interests and read a lot. He is intelligent, but I could tell he didn\'t like it if I knew more about something than he did. Unless it was a subject typical considered female territory like cooking or child rearing lol. (((HUGS)))

So you have a Ph.d. You are still just a regular person. You teach, you go to ball games. You haven\'t been there long. Get out in your community more and just live your life with no expectations.

If you are meant to have another half in your life it will happen no matter what you are doing, where you are and your Ph.d. Be the best you can be and live your life to the fullest.

Once again you are all right! I\'ll get out there (after I get this lesson done). Lol. I\'m going back to Zumba tonight. I know that will make me feel better!

Where in WV did you move? I live here and still struggle with meeting people issues. My stbx was the outgoing one and I just went along, now I am finding it difficult to just get out there. He of course has not skipped a beat he still attends all social functions with a bimbo of the month and I sit and cry because I can\'t make that step out my door. I used to go to the pirates game many years ago use to do alot of things many years ago. Need help in making that first move.

Lost my mind this morning. Blame it on the weather outside. I know Vienna isn\'t close to me at all. I\'m so happy you are moving on so nicely. Hoping I will be able to write the same soon and I know my boys do too.

Glad to read the update from WV. What a great way to start fresh after a divorce...new place, new job, new friends but very nice that a son and daughter in law are close by. Also, my nephew\'s wife has a Ph. D. in physics so I don\'t think it is a hindrance at all especially, as Kathi mentioned, since you are in an academic community. I think you\'ll do great! Keep us posted.

Even though you have a Ph.D, you still seem to be able to communicate ok. I have a BIL that is very educated and you can\'t even hold a simple conversation with him.
I hope in dance class you\'ll meet someone.
May you find peace and happiness in WV

It sounds like things are looking good. I\'ve been buried with the start of high school and college, but I\'m starting to digout. I just wanted you to know that I\'m still here. I, too, thnk the Ph.D. is a bit of a problem, but isn\'t that stupid!! You have to work hard to get that and you should be able to be proud of it not concerned that it might turn some man off.
