Know the washing signs available in different variants

To what extent the textile is suitable for bleaching is represented by a triangle. Bleaching agents are included in many detergents. They ensure that unwanted discolorations of white textiles disappear. Frequently, colored fabrics cannot be bleached otherwise they may lose their color.

Basically, it can be bleached with chlorine or oxygen. Chlorine is very aggressive and is hardly used anymore. Oxygen is much more environmentally friendly and thus finds more use.

The sign is available in four different variants:

• Empty triangle: The garment can be treated with both chlorine and oxygen bleach.


• Triangle with two oblique lines: The textile may only be bleached with oxygen.


• Triangle with the letters "CL": Chlorine may be used as a bleaching agent (but the character is outdated).


• Crossed out triangle: Bleach treatment should be avoided.

Heavy-duty detergents often contain oxygen bleach. If the symbol in the washing instructions is crossed out, you must not use it for washing. In this case, use color or mild detergent.

Care symbols: Dry

Not all textiles are suitable for drying in a tumble dryer.

The dryer symbol consists of a circle in a square. Depending on the design, however, there are many limitations.

First, the character is to be separated from a simple square. This means that drying can only take place in a natural way. The different variants of this sign are however only common in the USA. For example, they indicate whether the textile should dry when lying or hanging.

In the following list, however, we restrict ourselves only to machine drying in a tumble dryer. There are the following icons:

• Square with an empty circle: The garment is generally suitable for drying in the dryer.


• Circle with a dot: The textile is allowed in the dryer. However, you should choose a gentle program with low temperature.


• Circle with two points: It is possible to dry the clothes in a standard program.


• Circle with three points: This symbol may also be used for high temperatures.

Some synthetics should not be ironed.
