Kindness Matters, My Thoughts On The World Today

I started a journal on my computer a few days/weeks ago, I am going to post those here now as my starting Journals.
Kindness Matters; My Thoughts On The World Today
What a day today was! First starting my day at 4am, because my child woke me up because of a middle of the night accident, so after getting the sheets off of the bed, and making a new place to sleep, I was wide awake. Truthfully I was wide awake anyway, because I had just gotten up to use the bathroom. I was doing fine all day until I took a nap and then the rest of my day I was very tired. Even now as I write this I cant wait for bedtime.Today I took my child to the doctor and found out that the reason for the middle of the night accident and the pain She has been having since Friday, on her left side and back was due to a urinary tract infection, but closer to the kidneys, and that’s why it didn’t have the normal signs and symptoms associated with such an issue. Started the antibiotics tonight so hopefully she will start feeling better in a few days. When we got to the doctors building today, as we got on the elevator; two younger girls, I would guess about 18-20 got on the elevator too. I said “what floor?” and they were too busy talking to acknowledge me, so I repeated myself again and asked “what floor?” only to receive a very dirty look from both of them as one uttered “three”. I just brushed it off, as all of us got off of the elevator they went first and wouldn’t you know it, headed into the same doctors office as me. I took a deep breath as I followed them in. The one girl, went to the window to check in while her friend stood back a little waiting. I thought that she too was being seen and I asked politely “are you waiting to be checked in?” only to be met with the snobbiest attitude I’ve experienced from another human being since I was in high school along with her saying “no, I’m with her.” To me it seemed she was standing in line to be checked in, hence my asking. But she continued to stand in what was basically the line or path to the window to check in. The second window to check in was open, so I had to walk around her, to get by to check my daughter in for her appointment. I thought to myself, ‘how incredibly rude she is’ as I walked to the window number two to check in my daughter. After that was all said and done I went to sit where my child and mother (who accompanied us) were sitting, which happened to be by those girls. When I sat down the were directly in front of me. I felt myself becoming annoyed just looking at them, young and playing on their phones, something about that just really pissed me off. I don’t know if it was because of our earlier encounters, or if it was because they were playing on their phones; which I have come to realize in the last year is something that actually gets on my nerves. When you are out in public with someone, you should engage with them and not be on your phone or tablet. That is just my personal opinion. I was happy when they got called to the back to be seen.I don’t know why but it just seems like the lives of everyone these days, is so isolated. Everyone is always on their phones, at home, while at dinner with someone, out on dates – even first dates! It seems like being on the phone is almost like breathing for a lot of people in this day and age. I find it absolutely ridiculous. When I go out and eat with friends or family, depending on who I am with, I will check my phone just to make sure its not important, but I wont be sitting there replying to a text unless it is important that I do so right at that moment. There isn’t a text you will receive that so important that you have to answer your phone and be rude to the people you are with a good nine times out of ten. Back when cell phones were not even a thing yet, people actually talked to one another and went out and enjoyed each others company. No one had to sit there and stare at the top of the other persons head while they spent the entire time texting someone else. Seriously, unless its your parents, husband/wife or babysitter it can wait until after you are done enjoying the time with whomever you are with. I remember last year I went on a first date with some guy I met online, we had talked and texted back and forth for weeks before actually meeting. When we finally met up for dinner, I spent at least 45 minutes of the hour we were at the restaurant looking and talking to the top of his head. That was beyond irritating! Not to mention he knew exactly how I felt about it because it was one of the things we had talked about in prior conversations. Needless to say, there was no second date. When you sit back and you take a moment to observe the people around you, and I mean really sit back and take a good hard look, you will find yourself just absolutely amazed at how inconsiderate, self involved, manipulative, rude and cruel people can be these days. Don’t get me wrong there are people out there who are very kind and helpful to not only their friends and family but to strangers as well, however sadly, this world is becoming filled more and more, with people who are just the opposite. It is sad not only to think about but to watch happen slowly more each and every day. What happened to ‘Love Thy Neighbor’? What happened to ‘Treat Others As You Want To Be Treated’? Back when our grandparents were children, you really didn’t have to lock your doors at night, you could go next door and borrow a cup of sugar, you could let your kids play outside without worrying that something horrible is going to happen to them. People looked out for one another; stopped to help a stranger in need without so much as a second thought. What happened to those days? What changed? Why did people stop caring about others, and start being so self involved? How incredibly sad it is to think about, and witness on a daily basis. With social media websites like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube, our world is getting poisoned by random strangers we let into our home. I agree that every person on this earth is entitled to their own opinion, and should be able to live life how they choose. I personally don’t care if you are Gay, Straight, Bisexual, Transsexual or otherwise, you are a human being with thoughts, feelings and emotions like every other person on this earth. What bothers me, what I don’t want to see day after day, is the two hundred selfies you took the day before of yourself, with different facial expressions, outfits, or whatever. I don’t care. What that says to me is “Hey look at me!! I need constant validation to feel like I matter to anyone!” or “I don’t feel valued unless you ‘Like’ my picture.” Again going back to the whole self involved thing. I personally do not have any pictures of myself on Facebook, Twitter or any other social media site. I do not share pictures of myself, my child or my family publicly. If I have something I want to share with someone, I send it to them in a private message on those sites, or email or text them whatever it may be that I want to share. Even if it means sending twenty different messages; I personally think its worth the trouble. In the world today, you never know who you can trust. Strangers steal peoples photos and use them as their own, and sometimes in a way to defraud another person; which is called Cat-fishing. We sit here and talk about strangers taking and using our photos and I remember there was a news story a year or two ago talking about cat-fishing, and if I remember right it said that while we often assume its strangers who do the most cat-fishing, often it is acquaintances of someone we know, that we accepted as a friend on whatever social media site, or even our ‘friend’ on that social media site that steals our pictures and uses them as their own to catfish someone else. That is just one reason I do not post pictures of myself or family to any social media site, and I also don’t accept people as friends that I do not know personally. The reason I don’t accept people I do not know, or post pictures of my family and friends is because if I have a friend who accepts people they do not personally know, and I post a picture of my child outside in a swimming suit, and my friend likes that, then it shows up in the news feed of all their friends saying ‘so and so liked this picture’ followed by the picture I posted of my child. What if that friend of mine has a “friend” that really isn’t who they say they are, and is using a fake profile to befriend people with little children, for gross means. I am sure you get where I am going with this. In this day and age child predators are much more clever than they once were. They are now up to speed on technology and can do things; and you would not even know they were happening. How scary to think about right? So I protect my child in the ways I see fit, and one of those ways is keeping my social media accounts locked down and not posting a single picture on them of family or friends. I see people all the time who let their children, a lot of them too young to be out by themselves, going to the park walking by themselves, or being able to freely roam the neighborhood. I as a mother, just can not let my child do that. If my child isn’t playing in the yard, okay that’s fine, my child is old enough to go just out side of my eye shot, but I’ll be damned if my child is leaving my block and wandering around the neighborhood by themselves, absolutely not! Not until she is old enough, and i haven’t decided what age ‘old enough’ is yet for her. It varies from child to child, I understand that. A lot of people, especially parents these days, do not seem to understand just how dangerous the world is now. It’s not even like it was when I was growing up. We had to be in when the street light came on, and had to be where we could hear our parents if they yelled for us from the front porch, or if we were going to a friends our moms had to have the phone number, know where they lived and know the other parents. Now I see children roaming the streets all hours of the day and even the night, way after dark, with no parental supervision. They just tell their mom or dad, they are going to ‘Jimmy’s’ house, and they just take off with the parent not knowing who this Jimmy is, where he lives, his parents, or anything. Its beyond ridiculous in my opinion. I want to know where my child is going, I want them to call me when they get there even if it is a block away. I do not care what people think about my parenting choices, I am doing what is best for my child and that is making sure they are safe to the best of my ability.I don’t know. The world is just a different place all the way around these days, and you never really know who you can trust anymore. I hope more people open their eyes and see how the world is changing. How people are changing, and not for the better. Everyone wants validation for doing something kind for another human being, and if they can’t get the validation or praise, then they wont take the time to do it. That is incredibly sad.Be kind. Help someone out, not because you are getting something out of it, but because you want to be the kind of person who changes the world for the good. Offer to cut the grass for the elderly people who live across the street. Take time to get to know your neighbors. Watch out for each other the way people used to back when our grandparents were children themselves. Make the world a better place, one random act of kindness at a time.
