Just woke up after a trip to the emergency room
Good morning journal, the time is now 11:29am,and I have just awoken after a trip to the emergency room.Yesterday had been such a pleasant day,my wife and I had been very warm and loving towards each other all day, till finally,I retired to bed at around 10pm,feeling very good emotionally.I slept until 1:55am,when I was awoken with severe chest pains,it felt as if someone was sitting on me,my wife made me a cup of tea with lemon, but after half an hour, the pain was too much, and she called an ambulance. The paramedics were very professional, and I,believe it or not,was extremely polite and co-operative;in the ambulance, which I walked to,they gave me an electrocardiograph which was inconclusive. We got to the hospital at about 2:55am,I was taken in a wheelchair and given another electrocardiograph, which again was inconclusive,so the doctor decided to give me a chest x-ray and do some blood work. The chest x-ray did not show any abnormalities, but my blood sugar count was through the roof,a reading of 21:6,up from 14 on my last visit to the diabetic clinic,on the American scale,21:6 is over 250,so we were concerned. The doctor however was not overly bothered,he was more concerned with my chest pain, and if it was a heart attack or not,but he could tell us nothing more until the results of my blood work came back.So for the next hour or so,I lay on my back and tried to remain calm, then the doctor came in and told me that nothing had shown up in my bloods to indicate a myocardial infarction. His best guess was a severe chest infection, which as all my friends in this group know,is something we are prone to.I was finally discharged at 6:00am,in my night attire and my robe, and with a supply of an antibiotic called doxyciclene in my wife's purse. We had to call a cab to get home, and we arrived there at around 6:20am,it was absolutely freezing outside, and the dogs, having thought we were abandoning them, had to greet us like long lost parents. My wife then made coffee, and after two cups,I went to lay down and rest,my wife chose to remain up in case I needed her.I have now got out of bed,and my wife has gotten in,she is absolutely exhausted having been on her feet for twenty six hours or so.This morning,my chest hurts badly, and my back is again on fire, but I remain doggedly positive,it could have been worse,it could have been a heart attack or a stroke,I wasn't sure if it was my heart or not,but I discounted a stroke very early, having suffered one in 2010.Today,is a day for rest and recuperation,my wife has two pet names for me,music man,and old man because she is somewhat younger than me;in the emergency room, she didn't call me music man once, though I thought she overdid the old man routine a little!. As always though, her love and strength shone through like a beacon, which was a great source of comfort to me,there was a veiled threat when she uttered the immortal phrase in her best Virginia drawl,"you don't get rid of me that easy old man",it even made the doctor smile a little. At that time,I must confess,I didn't share his joviality completely, but I was getting there,my wife proved, once again, what a strong and supportive person she is,I am very blessed just by knowing her, never mind being her husband. So,this morning,I am grateful beyond words to be back in our home,I will allow my beautiful wife to minister to my health needs,(not that I have a choice you understand),and I will do exactly as I'm told, and over the next week,I shall take my antibiotics, and then visit my doctor, armed with the letter the hospital gave me on my discharge. It has occurred to me that I have been in my doctor's,and my therapist's treatment rooms,so much of late, that perhaps I should do the decent thing and offer them some sort of rent, but being a true Scotsman,I don't think my generosity will stretch to that.Oh well, time to rest a little journal, until tomorrow, barring accidents and acts of God of course,I will depart from you.Because of my unplanned trip to the emergency room, and the pain I am in,I am downgrading my little green fellow of the past few days,to my little yellow man who says he's okay.Until next time then, let's hope this worn old pump in my chest keeps on hanging in there;peace be with us.

Scott, Months ago such an episode would have caused your great turmoil, and major mood swings. It is amazing how you have changed so much about you in such a short time. Please continue to make such good progress. Take care, Bill
