Just Stand
Well, I went to social services(again) and told them about my dementia/schizophrenic dad and they said there is nothing they can do. Dad is living alone, falling all the time, and canceled his debit card so I couldn't use them. I was using it to order food for him. I've never taken a dime from him but have given plenty. Anyhow, I finally convinced them to check on him after I started crying hysterically. The social worker said that she'd seen him a few weeks ago(a neighbor asked for a well-being check) and knew he was in no condition to live alone.
Anyhow, we took two policemen and went over. Dad was on best behavior but when they checked his kitchen there was no food. Still they had to convince him to go to the hospital. And he did. Then the hospital said they could not keep him, nor could they place him in a care facility without his permission. Of course he won't give it. Much more fun torturing me. Turns out Illinois is one of the toughest states to get someone committed.
And we wonder why we've got people shooting up places. You can take all the guns in the world and still a mentally ill person will find a way. We need to attack the mental illness, not the gun laws. That's my two cent because my paranoid schizophrenic father had threatened to kill me, the neighbors and few relatives, my mother, grandmother and late husband. Dad had the firepower and the skill to do it too. He had a two handguns, a rifle, and a saw-off shotgun. It took me three years to get them out because I had no legal right to do so. This after his doctor diagnosed him as mentally ill.
There's an old gospel song. Here are the lyrics:
"Stand"
What do you do when you've done all you canAnd it seems like it's never enough? And what do you sayWhen your friends turn awayAnd you all alone, alone?Tell me, what do you give when you've given your allAnd it seems like you can't make it through?Well, you just stand when there's nothing left to doYou just stand, watch the Lord see you throughYes, after you've done all you can,You just standTell me, how do you handle the guilt of your past?Tell me, how do you deal with the shame? And how can you smile while your heart has been brokenAnd filled with pain, filled with pain?Tell me what do you give when you've given your all?Seems like you can't make it through.Child, you just stand when there's nothing left to doYou just stand, watch the Lord see you throughYes, after you've done all you can,You just standStand and be sureBe not entangled in that bondage againYou just stand and endureGod has a purpose,Yes, god has a planTell me what do you do when you've done all you canAnd it seems like you can't make it through?Child, you just stand, you just stand, standDon't you dare give up through the storm,Stand through the rainThrough the hurt,Yeah, through the painDon't you bow, and don't you bendDon't give up, no, don't give inHold on,Just be strong,God will step inAnd it won't be longAfter you've done all you can, after you've done all you canAfter you've gone through the hurt,After you've gone through the painAfter you've gone through the storm,After you've gone through the rainPrayed and cried,Prayed and criedPrayed and criedPrayed and cried, oh myAfter you've done all you can you just stand

My gosh - that\'s awful! I hope you get your Dad the care he needs and some well deserved peace of mind for you.
Sending warm hugs and many prayers your way.
Our political system is truly messed up. Its a shame that you are suffering due to their over sight. You have tried so hard to get him to a safe place so he could do no harm. My heart aches for all your grief. Sending warmest thoughts and hugs.
