Just Ruminating

Went to my grandson's 4th birthday celebration. As with all celebrations concerning anything to do with anything, including my grandson, my daughter-in-law's family was there. Oh dear Lord, these people live for this stuff! It's an ongoing family reunion 12 months out of the year. Every single member of her immediate family was packed inside my son and daughter-in-law's house. She has eight brothers, married, who have children, plus mother-in-law, father-in-law, people they invited, my youngest son and his wife. I was invited as an after thought. My daughter had told me about it. She saw it on Facebook and asked if I'd like to come. I said I would go, but don't know why, the poor kid is so severely mentally and physically challenged, he's not going to know. But I said sure, I'd go along and tell him Happy Birthday at least. Mother-in-Law-Number-One holds onto that kid like her life depends upon it, it would take a crowbar to even get him on my lap. My son calls the day before and says someone thought it would be nice to invite me, so I can come if I want to. My eyes are rolling, I think his are too. His tone was apologetic. So we go, late, Mother-in-Law-Number-One is hanging onto to the kid as usual. Has him wrapped up in a blanket, the poor guy is sweating. I swear she hugged him tighter when I came over there. I tell the little fella Happy Birthday, I have some cake, sit for about an hour watching the nutty tribal activity families perform when a stranger is around---don't tell me you don't know what I mean---stupid stuff, like the oldest brother recounting to everyone the embarrassing things my daughter-in-law used to do when she was two. I am going to punch that one right between the eyes, that is one of my many goals in these the final years of my life. I also look forward to actually talking to my grandson when he becomes so big he can no longer sit on Mother-in-Law-Number-One's lap without breaking her hip. I wonder what she's going to do then? Probably hover. Ah those will be good days. My life is full.

awww... I feel your pain... who invented in-laws for our kids that we have to suffer thru too! Seems we were pulled into every holiday with them, as if we didn\'t have our own home.. but we do, lol! At least you have some war stories to carry you thru all of this :) xo

just keep repeating: Not MY circus, not MY monkeys

when my family became homeless and my mom and uncle told all my relatives lies about us being on drugs, I kind of missed the tedious family events

I remember my grandparents\' 50th anniversary, my Uncle Sam who was 80 danced the whole time - I hope I grow up to be like him!
