June 30, 2012 - Friends father has end stage kidney failure
I needed to write another journal fairly quickly. Thursday, I took my friend Jen's father to walmart and it just about exhausted me. He bought so much stuff there, such a shop a holic. He's worse than a woman. His ex wife was coming up with the dog from Mercer PA for a visit besides, he needed to visit down there first to get some stuff left at her home. He is one of those "love thy x wife and hopes to get back with her" people. My friend Paul, Jen and I knew that the minute she left after her visit here - it would put him in the deep end and it would take him months to get over this. Anyways, Sara picked him up in Erie (apparently Jen's niece drove him down there so Sara can fetch him the rest of the way). Apparently, he had an appt with the doc the day before we went shopping and she mentioned that he had elevated creatinine level. Whatever that ment, perhaps it was about as high as mine was which he wouldn't be in any danger. We just thought perhaps the trip he might do ok. Jen called me this AM stating that Floyd was very lathargic and out of it - apparently he took too much meds that left him "drunk like". He called her to yell at her to "shut the @#$ up". Jeez. where did that come from. Jen said he didn't take any of his meds down there except for insulin and he took 1 too many med before Jen's niece took him down to Erie PA (Sara lives in Mercer PA off the 79). So, Sara told Jen that she was only having him overnight and bringing him back today. Fast forward to 7-8pm. She called me but I was on another line and went out for Tim horton iced capp for about 1 1/2 hr. She calls me at 10:30pm tonight all frantic stating that Floyd is now in kidney failure and that his creatinine level is at an all time high of 7.0. Thats not elevated, thats critical. He is now at Buffalo VA Hospital in critical condition and they are gonna put him on dialysis. She is a nurse at VA and has access to the computer systems - she will look up his creatinine level. I think she might see a lawyer if it was high prior to him having "elevated" creatinine levels (not! I know I have PKD!! Mine is 1.5, Jen and I thought that is what he had). I hope they get it down because I can't see Floyd allowing anyone to keep him on dialysis. He will refuse treatment. I won't know anything until later today (its now 12:08am). I will keep everyone informed. Good night!!
