June 10, 2011 - Corporate Challenge 3.5 run update

Hi everyone,
Last night was the corporate challege again.  My friend Sue from Health Information didn't do the corporate challenge this year because she was in Florida.  I would have blown her out of the water.  I came in at 53 minutes - I beat my time by 10 minutes from last year.  It went ok, there was a ton of people out there.  It was a perfect night, cloudy and the rain never came like they expected (severe thunderstorms - sorry Chris81 - you got the brunt of the weather it bypassed us).  Hung out with the people from my 5k training group.  It was much more fun knowing more people this year.  There are a few of us planning running with the fleet feet sports (the group who put on the 5K training run) on wed nights (they do about 2-4 miles).  I do plan on going to their summer training meeting next thurs.  I need to check out and see if they have a group doing this on other days.  If they do, I might do both.  It will keep me going, thats for sure.
There was so many companies who ran this corporate challenge - Citibank, Us (Kaleida Health), Catholic Health system, ECMC (Our county hosp),Wegmans, Tops, so many to name.  We are talking about 5,000 people doing this.  Amazing.  I mostly did my run/walk routine.  I felt pretty good because the weather was neither hot or cold.  I have to laugh because just past the 3rd mile, all these new people came crossing over from behind (the last 1/2 mile its out and back with opportunity to cross over so they don't get back so late).   There was this 300+ guy walking where I was (where in the hell did he come from) and there was this girl who had flip flops on - not the expensive kind, i am talking about those 2.99 pair.  That is so ridiculous - this is suppose to be a walk not  flip flop walk (I guarantee her feet were killing her at the end of the thing - I do not understand people).  The thing is that people were bragging about crossing over or cutting down Nottingham terrace.  They are only cheating themselves..LOL!!  There is no way that Joe Somebody from Dietary who is 300+ lbs gonna beat me to the tent (it happens....)
Well I must be going.  I've already had a few people come to me while I was writing this.  Oh well.   Sonja and I talked about things going on within the department - she is agreeing with me.  I told her to come to my office anytime she needs to vent.  Jen is asking her to be sort of a "spy" with the educators.  Of course, they get commended with their stuff but we get "@#$@" upon.  Sure we get pats on the back for doing good work but what does that do.  Not much.  Anyways - more about that later - I need to get off DS for awhile before "Jen" comes in here (talk about micro managing...jeez!).
Catch ya later.
