july has become "hell month"//THREE guys sick at work//death at rn's house//o'nan's book

for some reason the month of July has turned into the "hell" month.  it used to be august for many years, just stay indoors and hide kind of month.  lol.  last year it was June.  This year it is July.

Another guy is sick at work, he says today - extreme diarrhea etc and he is as pale as a ghost.  awful, he has a young son and people with children generally get sick a lot and its generally contagious.  hope this is nothing serious.  another guy is on indefinite medical leave because he is seriously ill and hasn't decided on a plan yet.  and another guy had his second surgery on his legs, he is only 43, its varicose veins - he says it runs in his family on both sides and he has a younger brother who is 38 who already has the same symptoms.  supposedly you can also get that from walking on cold floors like ceramic, marble or concrete, which is why it is best to always be on a second floor or higher, or to use carpeting with double padding under it, if your space is right on the ground or in a basement.   hope i remember that, though i generally like a view and i like it 79 degrees or warmer indoors so i'm probably safe.  never knew that about the legs though.  i knew to wear wool socks or the wool liner socks, which are actually better because they aren't bulky,  they sell them at the army/navy store real cheap (like $4 per pair) and your feet will never be cold again even in the middle of the winter.  you also need a wool blanket to lounge outdoors late at night, even in the summer because the air is full of moisture/dew by then and it makes it feel colder.  cotton only works during the day, not late at night.

anyway, the guy that had surgery may also have a legal thing going on as well according to e.  when it rains it pours.  rn had an accident, a solid wood door fell on her and she has an injury to her head and still has a headache from that, which isn't a good sign.  a slip on cat food that got wet from the rain.  k is ill, just his stomach, but no fever.  and stewie the cat is still too thin, i need to remember to do a de-wormer though at 9 years of age, it may just be age.  he used to be bulky and pure muscle though, so its strange.  two of rn' animals died, one hit by a car and the other was swollen around the sides and then gone.  sounds like wet fip?  odd with that one, as its brother was super ill at the pound, came back, made a full recovery and then died as well.  when its like that k thinks they are ill to begin with.  i think we should chart how many.  could just be bad luck.

ubu who is my oldest, age 12, came by to visit but mostly doesn't stay here that i know of.  he won't let me pick him up anymore and i miss that.  have to check on tm who was my other oldest but is also at another house, where he was bottle fed and raised for the passed 12 years.  that is lucky.   the grey cat is still missing.  have to remember to ask the people behind the next block.  having pets teaches you about death and illness as well, but only in large quantities, we had pets growing up and they didn't get sick, or so it seemed, but they also only lived around 11 years and by that time all of us were grown and gone, anything before that i don't recall at all - just little bits of them.

saw rn briefly to drop off jokes and q tips and check on morris.  the house is almost done and they have put furniture in it.  they close on the other house at the end of the month - so p will have savings then.  she also lost two of the houses of the five her aunt left her, but that is another story.  they are having car break ins on that street and its someone's teenage son that is doing it.  amazes me when that kind of thing happens.  rn hates him, every few years they have something over there, but i guess that is everywhere.

finally bought a mailbox, now it just needs to be put up.  lol.  the computer number inside the other one is gone, so hopefully the mail person took the computer strip out herself?  also had a blast at the other store, all of those stores are open until 8:00 or later even on sunday.  good to know.  the art store sells two laminators but doesn't actually laminate for you.  she said an iron over a paperbag over the item should do the same thing?  not sure i still have an iron?  what is an iron?  lol.  besides ted kennedy's memoir, which is better than i expected -- found the book "Emily Alone" by Stewart O'Nan, which is fabulous - love his style of writing so may have found another author to start reading allll of.  lol.   he draws you in like Stephen King does, with great descriptions that also teach something.   the Prequel to Emily is a book called "wish you were here", which is set when her husband dies a few years before this book.  in emily, the last of her people/"circle"  dies and obviously, she is alone.    since this happens to EVERYONE - sometimes more than once in a lifetime, you build it all up and then it is all gone again, especially if you live in an area where there is war or there is natural disasters.  in this book emily is in her dotage and beginning to understand that life is both awfully long and woefully short, much of it passed in waiting and/or regret, but she discovers “every day was and is another chance.”

Learned a lot about some stuff really important to me right now. I\'m just about to install padding and carpeting in my attic and basement. VERY good to know how important that padding is. May be surely worth the extra. Also about the socks!

Sometimes you are just a wealth of information, 38! Thanks!

Now, go put up your mailbox! xox
