July 6, 2011 - denver Trip days 8 until I come home
Hi everyone,
Seems like no one likes to read my journal. Had such a following for alittle while. Oh well. Haven't heard a peep out of anyone.
Where was I on the trip, oh yeah! Wed....My sister and I went for a walk on her dirt path not too far from her house. It felt like I ran 3 miles. The air in Denver CO is much thinner than the Western NY area. Not a lot happened as I recall on Wed. Just kinda vegged out. Dan, my brother in law made his award winning spagetti. It sure was good. He used wine. I was so hungry that I ate 1 1/2 helpings. I never do that. I gave him a 10+. It certainly made his night. I went to bed about 30 minutes after dinner. Which was 10pm. Yep - we ate late again. this time it was 9pm.
Thursday - I slept a lot better. Still woke up at 7:30am. Everyone was up except Mom and Dad (dad slept in). Kelly and Dan had to work so Kevin had to get a rental car so we could get to the holiday inn at the airport without anyone taking us (who would want to take us from the cabin at 2:30-3am - this way they can sleep and my brother didn't have to get there 4 hrs early for his flight). He wanted to go to REI sport store so I went with him. Thats one huge store. Apparently, it use to be an old warehouse. I bought a pair of running shorts and a running shirt. I actually got it too small. What was I thinking. Oh well. Some day I will fit in it. The shorts fit. I also got a few magnets, 1 for myself, 1 for tom and 1 for debbie. We got back early enough so we went up to the cabin. i think we were up there about 3pm. The Temp in Denver was 93 degrees and when we got to the mountains, it was 51 degrees. Ouch. I ran into the cabin and put on a sweatshirt and sweatpants. It was cold. Brrrrr....
Friday - Slept on the couch outside the bedroom where I slept last year. Mom and Dad were sleeping down there. Dad kept coming out of the bedroom and sitting on the couch and falling asleep. I counted about 3 times he went back and forth. I slept ok but it was broken sleep. oh well. I knew i would sleep alittle better that night because of being at the holiday inn at the airport. About 9:30, Dan, Kevin and I went on a hike - not too far from the cabin. it was about 6 miles. the dogs came with us. I got lots of pics along the way. Met a few hikers on the trail. Got back at 12 noon. Went up to a lake at the top of the hill. Stood on some snow. 11,000 ft above sea level. Vegged out the rest of the day. Got some sun on their deck. Read. About 7pm, my sister made some chilli. It was good. Kevin and I ate first because we needed to get on the road because it was 2 hours to the airport. We left at 7:15pm. We got to the holiday inn at the denver airport about 9pm. Kevin checked us in, he took care of the car. I went up to my room 631 (my room at the witchita holiday inn was 632, how funny is that!). saw it was a smaller suite than the last time but it was a king size bed. Kevin must have had a lot of points stacked up with all his traveling. 7 days worth of free platinum king size rooms. LOL!! I went downstairs to print the boarding passes. I was A17 from Denver to Orlando and A23 from Orlando to Buffalo. Kevin said that they would print up the boarding passes, I just wanted to do it myself. Then I went upstairs, fell asleep with the TV on (as usual).
Saturday - Damn! That 3:30am wakeup call came at the wrong time. Yawn.....I also set the clock for 3:30am too. I had arranged with the front desk to get the shuttle bus to the airport at 4:30am. Talk about early. I talked to this guy from Oregon, apparently he travels and fixes helicopters along the mid west (arizona, New mexico and colorado - he was going to south america next - but going home to oregon first). The rest were 3 flight attendants. They complained the entire time about how people don't answer their phones because of scheduling changes. Anyways, Got to the airport, went through security in one piece. Got to my terminal C45. Ate some bad Mcdonalds breakfast sausage egg and cheese sandwich (I only ate 1/2 of it and threw the rest away...Blah...). I drank the orange juice. I can't stand eating that way. Its like eating a salty shaker. LOL!! I waited. I got in line at 5:30am. Looked as though I was the 1st person to board the plane. I got to sit in row 5, my favorite row because its before the engine and wing. Looked like I was flying with a lot of families going to Disney world. We landed in Orlando pretty fast (about 10 min early). I went to get a chicken sandwich from this sandwich shop that was remarkably slow(at least to the person before me). I made sure the guy seen me. My food went faster. I only ate the sandwich and ice tea (threw out the chips). I talked to this one girl who was eating her pizza. I said to her "I might as well sit near you, your eating too". she was nice, lived in Fredonia and worked with some mentally challenged kids. She was from Denver and went to visit her mother for 3 weeks. Good for her. again, there was a lot of families going home to Buffalo who went to Disney world. Because i was A23, I was able to sit in row 5 again, I saved a middle seat for the girl who i was talking to. It was nice to be close to the front so I wouldn't be on the plane long. The stewardesses on both flights were very comical. Must be the new thing on Southwest - try and get the passengers to laugh. I was laughing before we landed. In orlando, I didn't see too many people with pools there but when we got to buffalo - the scenery looked like it was splattered in blue with pools. I have to say, we like our pools. Seen a few people in them (the temp was 85 degrees). too funny. flew right over the hospital where I work. Very cool. Anyways. Got off the plane, tom was there waiting for me inside. Grabbed the bag and took me home. About 40 minutes later, Debbie calls me. Frantically yelling at me stating why I never called her becaus she though she was picking me up. I told her that Tom was picking me up. Apparently, her uncle is in the hospital and she raced over to get me. She said "well, you gave me your itinerary" I said "yes, so you knew what I was doing!" She said "well I need to get off the phone because Im driving, I'll talk to you later!!". Damn! I have yet to hear from the woman. Not a call.....its been several days. I reached out to her, called to see how uncle joe was doing and then called her again on the 4th to wish her happy 4th of july. Well, I did what I can. I'll be surprised to hear from her after her house closes and she moves to florida - immediately. We'll see what happens.
